Hi, I have a packard bell desktop about 4 yrs old. About 5 months ago I had to take it to a computer repairman because windows would load. There was just a black screen with writing came up and at the bottom it said battery was low. Anyway, he replaced the battery and cleaned out the machine. The thing is, this new battery only lasted about 5 months before the same thing happened again. This time I bought replacement batterys and my partner changed it. All was up and running however this battery has only lasted 2 weeks! Anyone know wharts going on? Thanks

Hmmm.... so you missed this in the 1st line then?
"Hi, I have a packard bell desktop "
It's the motherboard back-up battery that keeps failing. Maybe the motherboard has a fault which keeps draining it. The battery only really keeps the clock and other settings going so not much current drain on it normally, it should last for years.0 -
the op is referring to the motherboard 2032 coin cell not the laptop battery0

What is the exact message? Is it losing the time and settings?!!

Hi, Its not really a message as such. Just a black page with white writing on, sorry really havent got a clue with computers! At the bottom it then says battery low. It says press F8 etc but when I tried to do this nothing worked. It only loaded windows when the battery was changed. After changing the battery I have to then change the time settings after windows has loaded. Thanks0

Was it a cheapo one, or branded with a date on it, they normally last 5 years
It should work without a battery, but will lose the time/date and hard disk settings, which can be changed manually in the bios.!!
