Metronet Broadband - cheap BUT

Just wanted to see if anyone else has had a similar incident with their ISP. Metronet insist you pay monthly by switch/credit card rather than direct debit or s/o. My card was stolen and it has taken me several days after cancelling the card to get a new one and go through all the hassle of sorting things out. My metronet payment was due the day before I got the new card and because the metronet payment didn't go through they suspended my broadband with no word of warning! No email was sent to tell me or give me a chance to update the card details. They didn't reply to emails and despite trying to get through on the phone for 4 days I was never able to speak to anyone. When I did change the card details via the web site they then sent me an email telling me - after the fact - that the service had been suspended. I am now going to change to another ISP if I can decide who to go for. Metronet are cheap but I'm not sure that makes up for their so called customer services!

Haven't Plusnet taken over Metronet? Plusnet allow payment by direct debit (much safer than a CPA to a credit card) so I am surprised they couldn't offer this to their Metronet user base. Pop over to the Metronet or maybe even the Plusnet forum on ADSLguide and post your question there.

It sounds a bit extreme not to warn you at least before suspending your account.

I would personally rate an ISP in terms of their customer service, and 'how' they deal with any issues with their customers or otherwise aswell as the price they are offering. If I could find something suitable for my needs with known good customer service, even if it's just a few pounds more, then I would try that.
