Will my laptop work outside my house with a stick you plug in ?

Hi i have problems using my laptop around the house it looses connection in parts off the house would i be able to use one off those sticks you plug in ? I know someone who has one and can use hes laptop in hes car using a stick sorry dont know the name off them.

    you mean a dongle yes

    if your having problems with the connection then check your router,

    but yes i cannot see why dont work for you

    Not quite sure what you mean here, if you're just talking about extending the coverage across the whole house then an external WiFi adapter may help, as would moving or upgrading the router.

    If you mean using the internet anywhere, i.e. more than a max of around 100m from your house then you'll need a 3G dongle and a monthly subscription from a mobile broadband provider.
  • It is also possible that in some parts of the house you might be getting interference from neighbours too it may mean just changing you router channel. When you try to connect to Wireless network do just get a lot of others showing up.

    Oh right so what what u recommend ? The laptop losses conection as soon as i leave the lounge that where the router is as i have a pc aswell, i always got told its was my walls in my house as my house is 1930's.

    yes it could be the walls, you could try changing the router channel, what router do you have,

    Netgear DG834G v4 54 mbps wireless think this is one off the old ones ?

  • It may well be the walls there is a nice little free utility that tells you what the wifi is like in your vicinity and what channels are used there it is to be found HERE put it on your lappy and start scanning (if you have a wired connection on your lappy too you need to change it to make sure it uses your wifi card)
