problem with iphone volume?

although they can hear me, all i can hear on my iphone when i receive a call is not much more than a whisper. it works fine on speaker. i have adjusted what i think are the correct settings to have volume at its highest setting. but no difference. th plastic casing i have on it is cracked on the top corner, so looks like i may have dropped it but dont remember doing it. it is not insured and before i take it to a shop for a quote i just wondered if i am on the right setting page to increase caller volume. have tried looking through downloaded manual but cant find it. can anyone who has same phone please give me the details of what i need to press to get on correct page to increase volume in case i am not doing it right before i organise a hard to do trip to shop where i bought it. its 15 months old so no guarantee and i know dealer sends them off if needing repair and can cost a fortune which i dont have so just wanted to check its not something i am doing wrong? thanks

Try an Apple Store first, book a Genius appointment, better than using any other shop.

i have the exact problem but it the opposite i can hear people fine they cant hear me

i took it to apple today and cos its a refurb ( they only give you 3 month warrantys on a refurb) it would be 140 for another refurb phone ( yeah right) so im just using my handsfree speaker to chat on it
