Ukrainian currency advice please

I'm doing a short trip to Kyiv later this month and would like some advice on the most effective way to change my money to hrivna. Last time I ended up spending a small fortune on commission & so on. I know the pound is strong against the hrivna, but you can't get them here. It used to be best to take dollars, but nowadays might the euro be a better bet?

  • Hi,

we were in Kiev 2 months ago and we were advised to take Euros and not Pounds Sterling. This turned out to be excellent advice as the rate for Euro exchange was far superior. For some reason they certainly do not like Pound Sterling and this shows with the rubbish rate offered.

We exchanged our money at the many booths which are everywhere and changed a small amount at a time, as this made no difference in cost, but meant we were not to be left with any spare Hrivna when we left the country.
