My friend has a probelm but as i feel partly to blame i thought i would ask as much info as i can for her.

Problem is she has a nokia 6280 on the 3 network pay monthly and Friday night whilst at a friends house drinking she dropped it into her glass of wine which was partly my fault as i knocked her hand the phone is now dead she has took it apart and left it to dry but to no avail the thing now is she does have some insurance through 3 but its not for water damage and if she were to say she had lost it there are that many questions as to if it were her fault or not that she has taken out lloyds insurance and will make a claim in 30 days time to get a new phone which is costing her £30 access i think.

Problem now is she doesnt have a phone and i feel so guilty as its her lifeline i would offer to borrow her an old one of mine samsung e800/ sharp gx25 but they are on 02 network, i'm sure i had the samsung unlocked but it wont accept her 3 sim card.

Any advice would be appreciated as to how she can get a new phone and if possible get one of my 2 phones unlocked for her to at least use her sim card until new phone arrives.

  • Buy a cheap one, I got an unlocked one for my missus from a well known branded store for £40 a few yrs back. It didnt have any flash features but was compact and worked damn well as a phone.

Dont commit insurance fraud - if you are looking for some sort of approval from people here to break the law then Id suggest looking elsewhere. MSE is all about legit ways to save money. Illegal claims only serve to push premiums up for all of us, if the estimates are true then wiping out fraudualent claims would lower all our premiums to the point we wouldnt notice paying for insurance. Its sad but true, but hey, we only have ourselves to blame. Take a moral stand and if you feel it was your fault - sort it out yourself. If you were both part to blame, make a contribution.

    Do the right thing.

Whilst I agree with the post above. Dead_Eye_Jones, in an ideal world you described that if all fradulent claims were wiped out then the insurance premiums would be lowered. However in my opinion, I would suspect that this would never happen even if fraudulent claims were lowered or wiped out in reality. This is because the insurance companies will make less profit, meaning those with shareholders will be under pressure to raise more income, i.e. putting up the insurance prices. Or the insurance companies can't afford to buy the latest and most expensive car/holiday (or whatever) to maintain their luxury lifestyle. Isn't it funny when insurance companies can quote you a certain amount and then you go to another insurance company and they can offer you a cheaper (?) quote? They make this up by charging excessive amounts to new drivers (including those with NCBs) and/or those who don't shop around, haggling for the best deals.
