Do you think the OP should remove it and give it a flush through with fairy liquid?
No I think that would be an exceedingly bad idea. I have a feeling you must be related to this guy? http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/wales/south_west/5110270.stm

If the problem is the switch, the switch is probably part of the reservoir so is a garage job to replace if you're not au-fait with brakes, and wouldn't have the computer gear to bleed the ABS unit if required.

    Won't windows 7 bleed it?

No it wont. The ABS light is a different matter.

im not quite sure what your getting at here.

you quoted my text that said "it will fail if the red brake warning light is on." then you mentioned ABS.
red brake warning light is a fail, you know the red circle with the foot/exclamation mark looking symbol inside it.
im not entirely versed with the op's A3 but some vehicles (i know mine does) incorporates the brake warning light as ABS aswell. so potentially an ABS fault could bring this light on.
i know when i ran my car without ABS sensor ring in one rear drum for a few days the light came on until my new sensor ring arrived.

that guys hilarious, what amazed me though is his offence is bad enough to warrant jail time but 6 months after hsi release he can then go and pass his test again and be back on the road! should he not have a longer driving ban?

anyway back to the reservoir fluid switch, most switches are float switches and are incorporated into the reservoir cap, easily tested with a mutlimeter testing continuity across both terminals on it,if its faulty then it can be easily replaced by removing cap and float switch and fitting new cap with float switch.

it will fail if the red brake warning light is on.

it could be as someone said the brake fluid needing topped up,could be a sticky handbrake switch, could be a brake pad sensor, could be an ABS sensor or sensor ring.

Someone?? Someone?? I've become a 'someone'? After all we've been through together you call me a 'someone'?

That light on many vehicles indicates it could be a bulb, brake fluid and handbrake - suggest you get it checked out at a garage if the obvious ones mentioned are not at fault.

And I believe you had your brakes checked and they cleaned them up - they would've noticed (unless they were blind) if the pads were low.
