Sky HD 1TB box

Anybody got the new 1TB capacity HD box? Or ordered one?

Bit pricey at £249+'installation' but will be worth it if the hardware is any more powerful than the current HD box... not sure if the actual hardware is any different though? The current HD box that I have barely copes with the playback of HD recordings.

There does seem to be a big disparity with the HD boxes, especially since the new EPG.

For us, our Amstrad has actually behaved better since the new EPG. We've only had to reset it a couple of times and that was only because it couldn't find the EPG listings for some channels later in the week.

As for the reliability of the bigger boxes, only time will tell. :)

its very simple to change the drive, i replaced mine the day my HD box arrived and that was over 3 years ago, the faster drive improved recording, the sky box powersupply failed like most units after about 12 months but the uprated one has worked fine since then.

i have a new quieter and faster drive that i am going to fit this week, and the old one acts as a nice backup since i have all 6 star wars films in HD :T

I also have one of the original Thomson SkyHD boxes and it was also temperamental until I fitted the Satcure upgraded power supply:

EDIT: The URL below seems to be changed when I save my post ?
    http://www.satXXXcure.co.uk/accs/psu.htm (remove the XXX)

The picture also visibly improved as soon as I switched it on which shows just how poor the original power supply is. I have had a 1Tb disk in my HD box for the last 18 months and it is definitely more reliable now - still takes forever to start up if you power it off though (5 mins+).

The new Amstrad SkyHD box my parents have is ready to go in less than 30 seconds when you power it on (with original or 1Tb disk) !

    Thanks

    Gavin

yep thats what i got, been working many years faultlessly

new 1TB drive is a huge improvement over the old one which was 2 months short of 3 years old, the new one can handle 12x FF perfectly with no frame dropping and is vastly quieter than the old clunker it replaced, my system boots in 45-60 seconds.

changing the drive also defrags it :)

i dont know why MSE blocks links to sites sat cure since they save members money on repairs and offer a better product :(
  • Where do I get one of these 1tb drives from please? And is there somewhere in Kent that can supply and fit it?

Sky are sending out mailshots to some customers offering the 1TB box for £149 free self install. Just thought I'd mention in case it's of interest to anyone.

We got one of those mailshots yesterday. Hubby rang them and they've currently ran out.

yep i have had one, down side is it forces you back into 12 months and back into having the phone line connected...

the thing i want to know is can i use sky copy+ to squirt my movies over to the new box

would be handy to have a backup sky hd box

nice the box has 1tb for user and 500gb for anytime so its a decent upgrade on my home done 1tb mod

Inside and you actually get a 1.5TB (1500GB) hard drive of which 1TB can be used for personal storage and the other 500GB used for Sky's Anytime service and the operating system.

I got a mail shot through but still said £249. At £149 I might consider it considering I could still get a decent amount for my old box if I sold it.
