...Looking at the erroneous transfer thing - does this apply to me? If so do i understand rightly that i refuse to pay the southern bill and should only pay npower once everything is sorted....

Probably not. You see the LL (albeit by his agent) took the account back first and then applied to switch supplier. By taking back the account, the LL was making himself liable for all consumption from that date.

You should have received a final bill from your supplier up until the account was transferred to your LL.

Yep had a final bill from N power for the gas usage up to the 21st. When I spoke to N power they said an electric bill was also in the post to me.

Just going to have to wait til tomorrow and speak to LA, and see what the LL says to the LA!

See how they try and convince me that its for 'MY' good that i go with Southern, who from one telephone call to them seem like the worst customer service for energy suppliers!!!

I was wondering though - i contacted EDF before xmas and arranged for the supply to be transferred. They said it would take 4-6 weeks. We moved into property on 29th December, and it took us about 3 weeks to send the inventory back with the meter readings on (SE had correct readings from the 29th which were on inventory).
SO basically it took SE approx a week to transfer the supply from Npower to themselves, maybe 3 weeks if LA contacted them the day we moved in.

How did they manage to take the supply before EDF? And how is my existing transfer to EDF still going through, if its being transferred elsewhere. So confusing:think:

Sounds like the letting agents started the transfer before you moved in, it's normally four to six weeks.

Even cheekier of them then, as i told them on moving day that i was changing suppliers and was in a contract!

Still waiting for a call back...

They phoned me back earlier and said that i had signed a form to say i could be moved to a "much cheaper provider". I said i hadnt, so she went to check.

I hadnt signed anything (because i said i was moving provider myself)

LA said they pass all the details to a company (Cant remember name) and they either inform the current utility suppliers that i have moved in, or if i have given my consent, which i hadnt, they move me to a "cheaper" supplier.

They said they would have to speak to them, as they dont know why i have being transferred without permission, or why the LL is the named person on the bill.

They even said they dont use the company anymore, so between 29th December and now, they must have had problems with them?!

Just being advised by EDF (future suppliers) to contact Southern and complain - as I have entered into no contract for them to take over my supply. They say they need it in writing or over the telephone, and as i had no idea about it they dont have it.

Npower (previous tenants supplier) said i should do an erroneous transfer, but EDF have advised against it as it will only delay my move to them even more - which i dont want to do.

The tricky part is that SE took no readings upon stealing my supply, so my npower is an estimated bill, and i DREAD to see the bill they are going to send me, after my last conversation with them!

And grr.. they dont half take FOREVER to answer the phones!!! Why anyone would switch to them is beyond me!!! Thank god for 0800 buster!!! lol

EDIT:Just spoke to SE, and they said my address has a "hallmark" on it, which basically means the utilities are automatically transferred to SE as an agreement has being put in place before. Theyve logged it as a complaint on my side, and advised me to request that the LA remove the hallmark from the property to avoid it happening again. Now just trying to sort out when my supply is going to EDF!

I've been a customer of SE for a number of years now and have had by far the best service from all of my previous suppliers. The reason I say this, when there was a complication on my gas supply (the incumbent was SE but EON came along and took over the supply due to "some" error) SE raised an "erroneous transaction" with EON and reclaimed my supply with my permission. It was important to raise an erroneous transaction as that was the only way to dispute someone taking over the supply without the house holder's express permission.!!!

As it was an erroneous transaction, EON could not produce any proof to confirm that I had requested the move (apart from EON were the previous suppliers for the house before I bought it - I had nothing to do with EON). Subsequently, once my supply was reclaimed by SE, they duly cancelled any charges for the period in dispute with EON and started my account afresh. In the end it worked out quite ok despite all the headache as my gas charges for nearly two months had to be written off.

SE was quite helpful all along.

PS// I do have a particular dislike towards EON after they took me to hell and back with fictitious bills for a total of £9k whilst I was paying for my services to SE. In the end I had to report them to the regulator and eventually accepted their fault and withdrew their bill.
