Police issued parking ticket..incomplete reg..valid??

hi my bf aquired a parking ticket whilst at work, there were no yellow lines or obvious places she shouldnt park but he got one saying un-neccesary obstruction... anyway thats not what i'm here for.

Basically the police issued the ticket however the clever police man has only put the first part of the reg on the ticket so for example he's put P123 *** is this still valid. he's wrote the vehicle make and colour underneath, I just thought it was odd. he's got another few weeks to pay it or appeal i was just wondering how he stood

If it does not contain the full and correct registration number for your vehicle I don't see how they can chase it up if you don't pay, unless they took the vehicle excise number (tax disc) as well......

It doesnt say on the ticket it was just a basic ticket issued from local police £30 within 30 days

I'd pay at the reduced rate, I can't imagine that he or she didn't make a note of the full reg.

And even if the unlikely event it wasn't recorded properly, I'd imagine the reg was run through PNC or other local databases to ensure it wasn't reported nicked, they could retrieve it from this if neccessary I guess.

Surely if a ticket is not written out correctly it is invalid

The slip rule can be applied to police FPNs.

The provision in CPR rule 40.12 that the court may at any time correct an accidental slip or omission in a judgment or court order (‘the slip rule’) does no more than enable the correction of typographical errors or matters that were genuine slips or mistakes.

More than likely the coppers pen hasnt gone through the ticket properly. Be aware that their copy will have the full reg on it.

Btw, Unnecessary Obstruction could mean anything from him blocking an entrance, parking over someones driveway, parked over a dropped kerb or parked on the pavement and not leaving enough gap for a double buggy to get past.

The ticket is a funny plasticy paper and there's no indentation where the last 3 digits should be

I didn't think the police could issue parking tickets. I once got a pcn parking ticket from a warden and he put the right reg of my car but the wrong make & model. I wrote in to say that this made the ticket invalid and they cancelled it! :j
