A 1 GB graphics card is total overkill for "documents, emails, browsing, plus ebay and Amazon etc".

Totally agree, my new mobo with 4GB ram has 256MB integrated video which runs all of Win 7 Aero stuff and Linux 3D/rotating cube desktop etc.

Way over for me, with similar requirements to the OP.

If a separate card is needed, £25 will cover it.
    Move along, nothing to see.

Some of the other stuff was inappropriate for the OP's stated requirements too.
The 'high quality' PSU and 500GB hard drive.

  • There's an article in the current Micro Mart about a new PC for £100 ... I think they expect you to assemble the bits yourself. And use Linux as the free software.

I would suggest 2 GB of RAM but if you get a good deal on PC with 1 GB RAM it's not too expensive to add an extra gig.

If you want mail-order then Morgan Computers have a few possibles under £200 inc VAT.
A kind word lasts a minute, a skelped erse is sair for a day.

Why on earth would a high quality PSU be inappropriate? You do realise I am talking about quality, not wattage. Cheap PSUs mean trouble.
Try saying "I have under-a-pound in my wallet" and listen to people react!

What is your contribution ? - Do you even have a contribution to make ?
You always display an abundance of nothing, a classic spoiling operation !

The O/P asked for someone to tell him what to get because he is "" completely blinded by processors and memory and RAM ""

Handling lots of simultaneous graphics, pictures and open windows to the net needs video & memory.

A 1Gb graphics card is £40 ish, a 2 extra memory bars are £30, there is a thin line between over specified & under specified and he is buying a new machine almost certainly on Win7 and would hope that it's future proofed for the next five years or whatever.

I've told him how to save £100 if therefore he follows my advice he will have twenty quid profit and a build the efficacy of which will function beyond the merely utilitarian.

C'mon bat999, give the O/P your suggestions but do try to make sure they don't go together like peaches & creosote!
