  • A few queries here - I'm being driven completely bonkers by online shopping!

For example, I know that Sainsbury's have vegan bouillon powder but is it listed on mysupermarket or on their website? No.

So, I've checked Asda and neither do they. But do they actually not have it or just not list it? This is most confusing. I've had similar results with tofu, red cabbage and other bits and bobs.

Luckily, Knorr vegetable stock cubes appear to be vegan safe but you get my point.
  • I'm happy to have a look at it, but I'm not sure which meals/foods satisfy the requirements for which colours so would only be guessing at the moment which might not be that helpful!

I'll give it a go and see what I can come up with anyway :)

It's aimed at kids but I quite like it :D

sistercas The recipe for the chickpea curry serves 4, but I suspect it would need some rice or something along with it. Going back to read through the rest of the posts i've missed now!

Our family likes HM naan bread. Easy and cheap to make.

  • twinkle - if you enter the search term vegan into the sainsb section of mysupermarket it will bring up the vegan bouillion
It shows as not stocked in Mr T or Mr A

My ds1 who is now 35 1/2 once rang me when I was at a friends house to ask if he could have a slice of bread,he was about 12 at the time. My friends husbands mouth dropped open and he said "you make them ask for a piece of bread?"
I didn't bat an eyelid when I said "we might have needed it for a meal so yes they have to ask for anything they want just in case its needed." They all knew how tight money was.

Growing up we always had lots of fruit in the house but we lived abroad for most of my childhood so that may have had a bearing on it. I have always tried to have plenty of fruit in my home but if money is tight it is rationed.

I had this with garam masala - according to mysupermarket Asda don't stock it - went in store tonight and there it was in the Asian aisle

And also I took note of something I read somewhere here (on MSE, can't remember where or when now :o:rotfl: ) about the smartprice apples being more expensive than the loose - well they've shuffled things around today in my Asda again and low and behold right above the smartprice apples (priced 68p per bag - 5 in a bag) were loose smartprice apples at 64p/kg - I picked up 5 to do a comparison based at the number in the bag (worked out at 0.725kg weight) and it came out at 46p :money: I think I'm going to have to dig out my fruit nets again from under the stairs and start picking up the loose fruit! :D Maybe thats something that could in theory be incorporated if apples are needed for recipes - Shirley can pick up the amount she needs loose, just like in a proper green grocers :D. Just a thought.

another little thing for you all to be mulling over....

Bob and shirley and the kids (I was thinking Jenny and Jason, unless anyone else has named them :rotfl:)

Puddings and sweet snacks/treats cake biscuits.

Any thoughts on amounts and variety on these?

    So far we have
    • oaty honey and raisin cereal bars
    • carrot cake
    • weetabix loaf
    • and I think we can do a rice pudding once a week after the sunday dinner

extras I can think of if needed at a stretch:

    • shortbread
    • another evening pudding of pancakes with lemon and raisins in
    • muffins if we have enough egg. (to be sorted once we've worked out the carrot cake requirements.

I was thinking of allowing 1-2 pieces of cake/biscuit/pudding per day. One after evening meal and 1 as a snack. it's probably their only snack though, so be honest if you don't feel this is enough :)
Are the other family the Barnacles with the twins Bertie and Babs?;):rotfl::D

The Kallo veg stock cubes seem to be vegan too. It's annoying about mysupermarket, I know looking at fresh red cabbage it would find it on one, but wouldn't connect them if you know what I mean so you can't compare the price. But if you search individually they'll come up. Argh, it's getting late, not sure I'm coherent!!

Tea and bed soon me thinks. If I get chance I'll look more at the colours thing, but I think I may be confusing myself. Again, tea may help ;)
