    • It's more than 50p a day, which although do-able I realise represents too much adjustment for most people. Although everyone wished me well and I hope got a lot out of it:o:), AFAIK not one person did likewise :rotfl:which has got to tell us something eh? It just wasn't normal enough or realistic enough or something... It's 80p per person per day to allow more normalness IYSWIM.

Oh I'd love to give the 50p a day a go. One day, just need to train the kids (and DH) to like a few more things...

    Hi Weezl and co,

I am a long time lurker of your other threads and am now taking the plunge and posting for the first time (scary beans!!). I think I may be slightly younger than some of you (22) so may be able to give a different opinion on things. I have quizzed my OH on whether he is happy to have things tested on him and he is very excited. He is my age, 6ft 2 and goes to the gym 5 times a week so will possibly be the decider on if your portion control is big enough for strapping lads or not!

Btw I asked his opinion on the meat debate-he feels that a meal is fine as long as it fills him up and is yummy and would be happy to go without meat for long periods of time. Maybe its a generational thing (he also does most of the coking/cleaning-maybe I just have one well trained lol)

Well I just thought I would stick my moneys worth in and hope you all wont think Im too young/inexperienced a cook to join in as I think its a brilliant idea.

    Love ArtyXXX

Hi artybear, Wow we are honoured with your first ever post! You are very welcome :)

Thanks for your OH's perspective, that's really interesting, I'm sure we can do yummy and filling stuff for him :D

We have plenty of young testers, Fergus my 11 month old likes the carrot cake :rotfl:;)

Hi Weezl, thanks for the welcome

Well I mentioned the pork belly to him and that apparently is one we must test so will try to do that over the weekend, we are on a very tight income as we are both doing post grad studying so money saving tips are always good!!!

I hope Fergie liked your carrot cake and at least Im not the youngestXXXXXX

    Results for Chickpea Crumble

I've now had a portion of the Chickpea Crumble for dinner tonight. Had it with leeks, carrots, broccoli and sprouts.

    Very pleased, a successful experiment.

Brilliant Lesley, it does sound very nice :):A

Can anyone be bothered to do the costings for me, I've been up since 3 and my brain is fried!

All he dose is eat and sleep at the moment, have my health back to almost normal and the house work is usually done by 10 am, so i spend the day on here, folding nappies or helping my mum with her house work. Honestly i need something to focus on or i will go mad.

Costings are not a problem so long as you point me in the right direction, i'm a tesco/LIDL girl so would need to convert prices for ASDA, hmmm may go nuts and go to ASDA they say change is good!

    hhmmmm Waffling!

ETA did that email work second time round?

  • Weezl, I can certainly squeeze some "poor peoples" ingredients or recipes from my MIL.My OH is originally from Romania and after lots of chats with him and his parents about living during the communist era it really opened my eyes about being very poor. It was much like war time rationing here. They could buy ten eggs per month, half a loaf of bread a day (if they could even find any!) and 500 grams of meat. He's grateful for any food put in front of him now :p But I still focus on keeping our food bill as low as possible.

The cheapest thing I can think of which they lived on for a while was Polenta, maybe not to everyone's tastes since it's a bit bland but I've found a few ways of perking it up. They used it as a substitute for bread and potatoes (since they couldnt get any) and my OH still enjoys it now. He also enjoys chicken heart stews

Oh and I also agree with your new plans re the different plans for different families. :p

I use mysupermarket click on the ingredients and then do the maths based on the quantities in the recipe, like Lesley's one? Does that make sense?

Ooooh stern DH :( must go to bed he is cross I've been awake so long and I have work tomorrow! :)
