I think we may have cracked it! By Jove! I think we've cracked it! We're on budget...
    how do they sound?
    how do they sound?

Weezl - they sound fabulous and tasty, and even non-experimental type men will find nowt to object to in there!

I agree that option C (was it taka who summarised everything so neatly?) is the one to go for, as everyone knows that 'subsistence' in the precise meaning of the word could cost less - ie potentially one could live off SP baked beans for a month - but is unlikely to garner much interest!!

    Well done,

    Cream of tomato soup:

    100g pluspints milk powder
    3 cans SP tomatoes
    salt pepper spices
    Garlic

15p per portion, but a super source of calcium :)

Nom nom nom... I fancied soup for lunch, wonder if I can whip up some of this. Is it a shove all in a pan, cook and then whizz???

I'm not keen on Bob either but I like BOB very much :D (t'other BOB who loves blackadder!)

He's turned into a bit of a tyrannical oaf in my head, not sure why!!! :rotfl:

Was it when he threw a tantrum at Shirley's suggestion to dig up his new designer garden in order to grow a few spuds and a bunch of herbs ? Cos I tell ya, I was not at all impressed at that. And the fact that neither of them is real and the whole sorry episode only occured in my head did not matter at all. Huh.

Anyway - risi e bisi. I have managed to clear a small gap in my mealplan to test the tweaked recipe out this Sunday, so I'll let you know what me and mine think on the subject - the intention is to try it with the equivalent of 40g of bacon for 4 (so 20g for the two omnivores chez mine) and about 1tsp of grana per person (dunno what's that in weight, but I'll have a go at weighing it on Sunday).

What's your thoughts on this, grandma ? Would the version you tested benefit sufficently from these additions ?

Regarding food allergies - interesting theory, really, but I am a bit dubious about it - I have also been hospitalised with anaphylaxis, but this definitely wasn't in our times of plenty. Perhaps bodies have to be deprived of nutrients on a lifelong basis for the immune system to switch the overreaction off ? As an aside, the offending foodstuff for me was, incredibly, cauliflower :o So if I had a go and testing out a finished month's plan (which I'd love to do), I'd need to think of something else to substitute for cauliflower cheese.... And broccoli also have a similar effect. I am allergic to few other foodstuffs, too, but mercifully not to the same extent.

Oh, and another thought - regarding rapeseed oil. My daughter's favourite way of eating potatoes is "Croatian potato salad" - potatoes boiled in their skins, peeled and sliced thinly, a raw onion sliced thinly, then mixed together, seasoned with salt and dressed with vegetable oil and vinegar. Perhaps this could be substituted for wedges on an occasion or two as a way to sneak in some uncooked oil in ?
  • There is a great cake recipe where you make the cake in a tray and then stab it all over with a skewer and pour over evaporated milk and leave to sit, it absorbs the liquid and makes a really moist cake. Any way we could do something similar with one of our cakes and some oil… Sounds a little gross but if it would work to use the oil without heating and we could less in the recipe and mix it with something like the powdered milk and some sugar… Just thinking out loud!
Dipping oil? With some home made bread…
    Stirred into the cooked chutney?
Funny how we’re trying to find a way of doing something many people are trying to avoid doing!

I may be jumping the gun a bit here but I have written my menu plan for the month ahead trying to incorporate as many of your 'Shirley and Bob' meals as possible.

We will do a shop tonight and will see if we can stick as close as we can to the plan. I will have some meals that I already have ingredients for in my freezer.

It will not be a fair test when we do it because we have is no Asda so shopping is either from Tesco or Aldi. We also have a lot of the store cupboard ingredients here.

I had another go with the weetabix cake one and it went through at the third attempt. But the sweetcorn fritter one is having none of it. It's question 9 that's causing the problem. The exact message I get is The comment you entered is in an invalid format.
It's not a long comment so it's not that. I also tried leaving it blank - no joy either.
Anyway, I used Shaz's recipe from post 670, half quantities but with a scant tablespoon of garam masala which gave a good flavour. My mark was 6/10 amd DH's was 7/10. We had the fritters with potato wedges and salad and found this to be a filling meal. Probably won't become a family favourite, but we'd eat it again if we found ourselves in dire straits.

    :(
I dont know why it wont let you comment...
I have checked it again, and it looks ok.
I have changed the question, so that it does not require an answer, so you should be able to complete it now :o

I know this project is being designed as a comprehensive eating plan, but in real life people are going to pick and choose to a degree. even as testers, we're not all testing the same recipes.

Yes.... everyone does have their own tweaks to the recipes, I can see this in the surveys.

There must be something wrong with their system, then, because I submitted a questionnaire for the apple curd on Monday evening.

I still cant see it :(
Its not showing any replies. :(
Sometimes it is quite slow, when creating...so maybe it is a technical gliche their end :(

I am still trying to catch up ...
I will be back later :)

Have done the Sweetcorn Soup survey, have lost track a bit of which ones I have done, and which ones I haven't done

Thanks, I can see your response there :j
The surveys can only be completed once, per computer... so if you cant do it, its because you have done it before ;) Unless you're on another computer :D

Can I also echo Potty's plea that people who've tried the recipes could complete a survey? Potty am I behindhand in posting linkies at the start to any of your surveys or have I got them all?

Thanks Weezl.... the links are all up to date so far.
I haven't really had a chance over the past week to create any more, as life has been happening :o
But, I will crack on with them when I get a chance.
Still catching up... on page 99 now :D
    Nearly here:rotfl:
