I had a look at my Marguerite Patten preserving book and the recipe for sweet orange (as opposed to seville) marmalade has these ingredients.
    1lb sweet oranges
    2 pints water
    2lb sugar
    juice of 1 lemon.

I see no reason why the shells could not be used to make up the weight and they will not look much different in the marmalade without the zest.
Sorry got to go dd1 arrived will catch up later.

Weezl: Calcium is not going so well. :o The government recommends two to three portions of dairy per person per day, but I don't see a problem with using two portions and then making up the difference elsewhere. That means we need a minimum of [STRIKE]124[/STRIKE] 248 portions, but we only have 78 adult portions (200ml milk/ 30g cheese). :(

Using either the Asda website or http://www.nutritiondata.com/ I have calculated:

    9 litres milk = 11g calcium
    1kg cheddar = 7.2g
    Six cans pilchards = 7.6g :D
    30 medium eggs = 0.7g
    2kg chick peas = 2g
    12 x baked beans = 2268g beans = 1g
    5kg porridge oats = 2.7g
    4.5kg Smartprice flour = 1g
    3kg green beans = 1g

Which is a total of 34g calcium. Plus some from water intake, depending if it's a hard or soft water area.

Teenagers portions are larger than adults: http://www.milk.co.uk/page.aspx?intPageID=92
If both children are in the 11-18 age group, we need 3.2g calcium per day for the family: I hope my maths is off due to last night's imbibing.
    :(

Anyone know how much the Asda wheat bisks weighs as nutrition stats are by weight and the pack is by quantity?

just been checking the calorific value of cooked potato and pilchards to see which of my figures are right for the fishcakes and it looks like the first set of figures I posted are correct : 15.4g protein, 162.6 calories, 3.5 % calcium (not given in grams)

Hiya firefox, gonna reveal my ignorance now, but why does the calcium have to come from dairy? I mean are the govt saying, get it from dairy cos that's easiest for Joe public to include in his normal diet, or are they saying it cos it's dangerous to get it from non-dairy sources? Does my question make any sense, I suspect not :o:)
