Hope i am asking this in the right place but it is soup related:D
I have just cooked a piece of gammon in the slow cooker but cooked it in apple juice, it is probably a stupid question but can I use it to make soup as it has the gammon stock in it as well.

I've made the Hairy Bikers Apple cider and onion soup before and it was well yummy. I'd use the stock from the gammon in place of the cider and some of the stock.

If I want to "bulk out" a coup, I add canned beans, chopped fried bacon, or chunky bits of ham hacked off a ham hock. Another good cheap meat-based standby is a tin of frankfurters or some chunks of Matterson's smoked sausage which go really well in any soups which are pea or lentil based

Ah well hubby loved the idea and broke the new to his friend, without my prompting!

So, we actually did start Sunday Night Soup Night tonight (I had a pack of frozen Mediteranian veg, and a couple of tins of tomatoes, blitzed. Served with crunchy bread topped with cheese) and it was a big hit.

DH LOved it especially as he's been ill too, so it was comforting. He also thinks it will help him lose weight.

The friend liked it but mentioned it would have been better with some chorizo.

Anyway thanks again all for the idea and encourgment.
