Cool thanks Ubamother so we won't waste away then!?
I've been doing dessert (fruit, yoghurt mainly) every lunch so that nobody asks for seconds of main .... maybe I could cut that down abit too and maybe just do a bigger puds on Soup Day ...
Do you have a set day for Soup Night or just as and when? I'm planning on every Monday as that's my most hectic day and don't ever have time to cook from scratchBon App's Scraps!MFb40 # 130 -

So a couple of questions do you have a starter when you have soup? if so what? Do you tend to have a more substantial pudding? Do you just serve the soup with bread or anything else?
Guess I want to know if you are starving on soup days!?
Also do you buy ingredients especially for your soups or just make and freeze batches from leftover veg and scraps ... I was thinking of just doing batches of veg as and when they are cheaper?
Thanks in advance
Norman x
I've only recently started to have a soup night but I serve the soup with hm cheese and onion whirls (bread whirls ). It's the only day we have a pudding as well, so the kids don't feel like I'm starving them.
I also make batches of soup for the freezer using either bottom of the fridge veg or whatever I've managed to pick up cheaply."Who’s that tripping over my bridge?" roared the Troll.

Cheers Kinky x Just read the thread and was very inspired - great ideas about adding potaoes, pasta, lentils etc.
I'm a bit of a soup novice, just tend to boil up veg and blend itso it has given me inspiration to try out other recipes ....as long as I don't end up spending more of course
Will have a look at CW now xBon App's Scraps!MFb40 # 130 -
I think H would be able to manage those cheese whirls I'll get him to do some when he does his batch of loaves for the week on Saturday :TBon App's Scraps!MFb40 # 130

I never have a starter, or a pudding (afters!) with any meal. I'd eat soup as a meal just with two bits of toast.
Last week I made a big veggie stew & dumplings (potato, onion, swede, parsnip, carrots), the second night I added in another couple of potatoes and carrots and a fresh set of dumplings. After that second night of stew/dumplings, I mashed up all the remaining veg/gravy by hand (using a fork) and put it in the fridge. It then produced 4 bowls of lovely veggie soup for the next few days, which I ate with 2 slices of toast.0 -
My family's favourite soup is my spicy bean soup (the recipe is posted somewhere in the homemade soup thread) and as it's quite a substantial soup, I simply serve it with homemade bread (mix of white and wholemeal flour).
We don't have a set day that we have this, although it's often on a Saturday simply because I cook it in the slow cooker and I can bung it in, in the morning and go out shopping.0
