I was hauled in to see the rather chubby and wobbly head of department this morning who told me that for the good of "morale" I could go immediately and still get paid to the end of my notice period! "So that's four weeks' free holiday?" I said. He looked ready to blow a gasket. :rotfl:
Apparently, this is routine - they've done it before with other staff.
New job lined up to start in a month, but obviously I have time to look around now as well.

I would be tempted to temp as well to bring in some extra cash, even if it is just 2 weeks. But 4 weeks full pay from this other job, that's superb.

Here's a handy hint for those looking for work - get your CV on Monster! I did late last night - this morning the phone rang (it keeps doing that!) and I have an interview for a three-month temp contract at £ker-ching! per hour tomorrow morning! Even better it's a stone's throw from home (if you use a very big sling, that is!).
Plus I have another interview with an agency this afternoon.
The moral of this story is ... respect yourself. Don't let anyone push you around. Be true to who you are and the universe will reward you. Here endeth the lesson.
Woohoo! Fabulous stuff MinnieSpender, that's great :T :j
Well done you!

Hi,
This is all fabulous news - so glad things have worked out this well for you. I'm a firm believer that if you create a vacuum loads of good stuff just has to come flooding in!
Can I ask what general area of work you do, if you're willing to say? Just as it sounds as if there is lots of work going of that type, from what you've posted. Understand if you'd rather not reveal.

Well done gel. :T My immediate thought when I read your first post was to advise you to make an official statement if your HR dept offered you an exit interview, but clearly from the details above, the HOD is well aware of the situation, but is completely lacking any form of round objects to do anything about it, so you probably won't be offered such an opportunity. You're well out of it, and as with many situations like this, you'll find that once you've got the courage to break free (and it's not easy to do that when you've been a victim of workplace bullying), the karma kicks in and lots of nice things start happening.
