Does anyone else not go on holiday

I have only been abroad four times in my life - two on school trips, the other two on cheap day trips to France. OH and I do go on holiday every year, but in this country. Our holidays are generally paid for by the general savings we make on spending through out the year, and never ever paid for on credit. Ok we do rent lovely cottages down in Devon and Cornwall (that's our bit of luxury
) but we always make use of things like Clubcard vouchers for meals and days out, Nectar points for money off our shopping in the local Sainsburys, keep an eye out for 241 vouchers etc.
I get SO much stick at work for having holidays in this country. I get told that we're boring, we're shortsighted, etc etc etc. At the end of the day, we LOVE our holidays in Devon and Cornwall, it's our favourite part of the world, and we always end up totally chilled out and relaxed down there. I don't give a **** if people cannot respect that!
Edited to add - my parents took me self catering in the UK when I was a kid, generally speaking the sort of holidays OH and I have together. Many of my friends went skiing, sunning themselves in Tenerife, playing with Mickey Mouse etc, but I certainly don't feel I lost out.DFW no.554 - Proud to be dealing with my debts :TDAVID TENNANT CAN PROBE ME WITH HIS SONIC SCREWDRIVER ANYTIME...:AFLYING THE FLAG FOR THE CAMBRIDGE BOOTS TARTS :happyhear0 -

That's very bizarre that someone would say that though. To go to the trouble of airing such an opinion. I wonder where these people go that they would think that holidaying in England is "short-sighted". Perhaps they're just not doing it right

Hi op, do not feel bad for that. i never went on holidays till i was 16 i think... and travel abroad when i was 20.
i do have to say we do go abroad twice a year, but this is because we buy £20 ryanair flights ( somtimes even cheapar like £10).. and staying in Spain for a week is around £100, i mean i can not even stay in manchester for 3 days with that kind of money.
my DD is 2 1/2 and she is being abroad 7 times. She doesnt remind the hols tho,Mejor morir de pie que vivir toda una vida de rodillas.0 -
I love holidays. Any kind, anywhere! Have always made the best of them, no matter what our budget or the UK weather has been like. Like mrcow said, it's possible to holiday on a limited budget with a bit of imagination, planning and application!!
I just think it's wonderful to take yourself out of your everyday circumstances and routines, relax and see new faces and places and it's something that will always be remembered.
Me too!! I LOVE MY HOLIDAYS. We go all over the world and have a fab time. We don't drink, smoke or go out much or have expensive cars, or lots of "expensive housy things", so we spend our cash on travelling. I know it's not everyones choice, but each to their own!

I wouldn't either!
But even my nine year old has plans to visit the pyramids, Eiffel tower and China.

Go and have a drink/light lunch at the top of the Grand Hyatt - just take the lift to the top (don't go to the restaurant unless you really want to - you can get perfectly good snacks at the bar). You get a great view of the bay and they are really laid back there. It's a nice place for lunch if you're shopping in town.
Also - don't forget to get yourself to the Cheesecake factory - the cheesecake is out of this world, but the main course food is also very good and a lovely dinner/lunch option.
And say "hi" to the Sealions on pier 39. (And don't forget Lombard Street)"One day I realised that when you are lying in your grave, it's no good saying, "I was too shy, too frightened."

And don't forget to take a warm jacket, SF can be really chilly (especially in summer!!)
