Nokia E72

I hope someone can help pleeeze.

I have been using a nokia E71 on O2 and it's a very good phone.

On Monday my wife who has an old Blackberry, got herself a Nokia 72, however she does not like the phone so I have swapped with her.

The E72 came from Vodafone and it's unlocked and unbranded.

Everything on the phone works well with the O2 Sim card, except the Web, I keep on getting the following error message '' Sorry The requested server does not have a DNS entry''

The only way to access the Web is to hold down the 0 (Zero) key, which is fine, but very annoying when the dedicated Web key keeps on giving out error messages.

O2 sent the settings for the phone when I inserted the Sim card.

As I am not well versed with how to cure this fault I would be greatful for any suggestions.

Thanks in advance.

might be a stupid thing to say but..is it not that the web settings for the phone were actually on the phone as opposed to the sim. So it could be still looking for the Vodafone DNS as opposedto the O2 DNS which obvciously wouldn't work?

Yes thanks, Iv'e spoken to O2 and the say that they are unable to help as they dont sell the E72, I take your point it looks like the Web settings are for Vodafone on the dedicated key which cant (as far as I am informed so far) be used for O2 with new settings Thanks anyway.

I not sure what you mean by "web key", but I would guess that it is configured to go to specific web page by default, which is only visible on the Vodafone network.
I would try opening the web browser, then Options -> Settings -> General
Check that "Access Point" is set correctly
See what "Homepage" is set to.

Another option would be to download a browser like Skyfire and use that instead.

  • 1) I've not got the E72 but I believe it also does WiFi - does that work ?

    2) If it has Vodafone firmware (as against being locked to Vodafone) this may have some network specific settings. Phone shops (the small dodgy looking ones) can often "reflash" the phone with "generic" firmware and get rid of the Vodafons specific settings. That might help.

As you have an E71 which I believe is fairly similar compare the two. Can you enter an IP address such as 212.58.251.197 which should take you to the BBC home page ?

If that works it points to a DNS problem. If it is possible to set these then using the values in www.filesaveas.com/gprs.html

    Hope this works.

Thanks for all your help, after reading all the reviews about the Nokia e72, personally I would rather the e71 having had the two to compare.

So OH will get herself a new Blackberry and I will revert to the trusty e71.

    Thanks again..........
