Flights from Australia to UK

I emigrated to Australia a year ago and planning a return holiday this year. The costs of flights to the UK from here in Sydney are much more expensive than doing the same journey in reverse bought from the UK!
Does anyone know if it is possible to buy flights from the UK at the same price rather than me spending at least another £1000 for me and my 2 sons?
All help appreciated! Thanks!
Helen :)

I'm pretty sure that if you buy an Australia to the UK ticket in the UK it will cost you the same as if you bought it in Australia, so the idea is probably a non-starter.

What you may find is that the definition of high and low season varies - so rescheduling your visit may reduce the differential.
  • Hi there,

I recently booked a return flight from London to Australia, and found that I saved £100 over the cheapest equivalent flight on kayak.co.uk, simply by booking it on the New Zealand version of Expedia expedia.co.nz (someone mentioned this on the MSE forum elsewhere - thanks for that!)

I would have quick look on there, maybe the flight you're planning will be cheaper than .

I recommend paying for it via a Nationwide debit card - Nationwide don't charge for overseas payments or for currency exchange, so you're not paying anything apart from the flight you book.

    Hope that helps!
  • If you have a UK bank account I would consider using expedia (UK) to book your flights.

What is the benefit of doing this if it is cheaper via Expedia NZ?
Green and minimal chemicals is the new black- I know a fair old bit about sustainability, specially energy and transport stuff. If I can help- please ask!
