Best broadband for me..?

I am moving in to my first home soon and want broadband connection. I am online quite a lot and on a very tight budget.

I am not fussed about free telephone calls etc as I use my mobile alot so would not use a landline much at all.

My parents have Tiscalli but it was forever messing up

What is best for me?

Depends on what is available for you in terms of providers.

Check SamKnows for the exchange info where you are going to live.

If you have access to an o2 mobile number ( can be family or friends , if not your own ) then I would highly recommend o2 at £7.50 a month unlimited downloads . Excellent customer service . All you have to do is to top up the mobile with £10.00 every 3 months to stay on the £7.50 monthly tariff.

I cant fault o2 , having used Tesco, Virgin , Tiscalli & BT , o2 are by far the best .

Only if O2 LLU is available. If it's not then O2's Access service is one to avoid.

Thanks. Also, I am renting the property for 6 months initially. Most packages are min 12 months contract, what happens if I decide to move on after 6 months?

One package says 10GB monthly usage...what does this mean??

You would still be liable for the remaining 6 months/

It's what you are allowed to use each month for browsing, downloading , emailing etc.

You can move your broadband (and contract) with you when you move. Alternatively, look for providers with less than 12 month minimum contracts.

You can get this with Plusnet - if you pay set up upfront £30 and buy a router or provide your own. Be broadband do 3 month contracts but charge more for these.

10GB means you can download 10GB of data each month.

    As a rough guide...
If you downloaded a BBC iPlayer program, it would be around 200MB to 500MB (1GB is roughly equivalent to 1000MB)

If you just use the Internet for browsing and email you're unlikely to reach 10GB.

    Here's a guide.. http://www.chooseisp.co.uk/broadband-guide/articles/how-much-broadband-usage-do-I-really-need.html

    10GB is equivalent to roughly..

Watching 50 to 20 BBC iPlayer TV programs (like an episode of Eastenders or Top Gear).
4 days of non-stop talking over VoIP (telephone calls over broadband, e.g. Skype)
Browsing and emails? Probably fairly non-stop browsing and emailing!

I would be very suspicious of an ISP that tried to "lock me in" to a 12 month contract.

An ISP should have enough confidence in the quality of its service to think that customers stay with them because they are happy with the service and NOT because they are locked in!
