I have 4 young kids so we go through this many times each year. Tried everything from Hawkins Bazaar to supermarke stuff. In my experience most stuff gets lost before the kids even get home.

We have found the best idea is to buy a load of books from an online book club (you can usually get a box of 10 kids books for about a tenner) and then put it in a bag with a piece of cake. I think the club we use is called the book people.
  • I get all my party supplies from partypuffin.co.uk. They have loads of products for all occasions and are the cheapest I've found anywhere (and I've looked around a lot!). Really helpful service as well. Hope this helps.

I like the idea of books so gave a book to everyone at DS2s 5th birthday in November; one four year old complained and asked why I hadn't bought them toys instead! Last time I'm inviting him ... especially as his older brother asked for a party bag (and hadn't even been invited!!!)

You do know that most of it will just go in the dustbin eventually don't you?

It's not worth wasting your money on.

In a party bag, all the child is interested in is the sweets and the cake. There doesn't have to be loads - just something.

I stopped buying all the plastic party bag guff years ago when I realised how wasteful it was (we get lots of party bags in this house!)

If you want to put somthing else in the party bag - go for either stickers, bubbles or a ball. Just one thing - you really don't need to worry about getting anything else.

This year I am just going for a cone of sweets , made from cellophane cut into squares, rolled into cone shape add some sweets which are 3 bags for £1 from asda and tied with a ribbon ,I rekon they are going to cost less than a £1 each
like everybody else its just the sweets my DS looks for and the plastic rubbish gets threw away after a day or 2

Might be all your child is interested in, but not mine! DS gives any sweets that are in his bag to his sister, because he hates sweets (but LOVES chocolate). But he loves the "plastic party bag guff" - he had a face on yesterday because he went to a party and his friend had a whistle in his party bag and DS didn't <rolley eyed smiley>.

My two will play for hours with cheap bits of plastic, ignoring their much more expensive toys.

And it looks like we made it once again
Yes it looks like we made it to the end
  • I don't know if any of you have seen these in the shops, but these are really cool. They're called GlowPops, and i think theres someone selling them on eBay.
Basically, you snap the stick, and the stick glows in the dark. They're great for parties etc.
My children loved them. I can't remember what the seller was called on eBay, but im sure if you some searches, you should be able to find them.

    and they're quite cheap too!

    Hope this helps..
