Gosh £25 plus £5 for insurance I assume to make it £30. I mean you can get insurance cheaper than a fiver a month for a start (you might be even covered with home content insurance if you have that).

I don't even need to look - there are SOOOO many deals out there cheaper than £25 a month giving lots of minutes plus net etc.

They probably doing you a favour I say - go for another network, cashback deals are good with the right companies (phones4u, dialaphone) as long as you are organised - just make sure about reception in your area for new network.

Or if you find a better Orange deal somewhere, port the number to a pay and go on another network, order new phone, then port back in.

I pay £25 a month for 600 minutes, unlimited texts and unlimited internet usage with free Orange Care.

They said I can't have free Orange Care anymore, so it'd go upto £30 a month and I'm in need of a new phone as mine has seen better days, so I'd also have to pay for that.

Porting the number sounds like a good idea and I've been reading on the forum there seems to be a lot of good deals for outside companies like Phones4u and Carphone Warehouse, so may give them a try.

Have you thought about porting the number temporarily to PAYG, and then applying as a new contract customer in your name? You'd probably get much better deals.

loyalty is with the customer not the contract, when the contract transfers you're technically a new customer (there's nothing to say that you were the contract before it was all in someone elses name) hence any loyalty doesn't transfer, not ideal I agree
loyalty would affect things like the price of a handset when you upgrade

My theory is that the reason the loyalty doesn't pass over is because with the old owner they could estimate how much return they could make from the way they use the phone e.g amount of calls size of bills etc. and offer better deals .
but as its now with a new owner they may not maintain the level of profit they are making the company so it would be a risk to offer the best deals as they could potentially make very little profit or even a loss
  • @ OneADay, Maxtweenie, reehsetin and eranou: thanks for your advice guys, seems like Orange may well be doing me a favour now that you've all given me some pointers, otherwise I'd have been stuck with the same old contract and an old phone. May well have to consider the cashback deals or PAYG option.

I appreciate your help and advice :)
