Breakfast muffins are another idea. They are lower in sugar and fat than ordinary muffins. My recipes all have soya in but here's one http://www.vegsoc.org/newveg/kickstart/muffins.html

I have to avoid yeast to and it's surprising what they add it to. Most cereals are a no-no - as are some wraps/flat breads.....crackers and crisp breads have yeast in too.
I tend to have toasted potato cakes for brekkie - I prefer savoury to sweet first thing.....sometimes I'll ring the changes with a scrambled egg wrap.

Me again. Bisto favourite gravy granules doesn't appear to have any yeast but it does have small traces of soya... I don't have any but what about the old packet Bisto I seem to remember it having a very short list of ingredients, maybe worth a look?

Just had a look at my packet of powdered Bisto(not granules) and it does have yeast in unfortunately.My son has various intolerances so I know it can be a bit daunting.Most supermarkets have a 'free from' shelf,if you've not tried that ,and read all the labels.Our library had a good section on special diets too.Good luck with it all,and hope you see an improvement in your health with it.:heartsmil 'A woman is like a teabag: You never know her strength until you drop her in hot water'. I had an intolerance to yeast for a fair while but can now eat small amounts.
Some people seem to think it is easy to find meals without yeast or dairy. I cook from scratch so it was fairly easy but for people who cant cook or rely on convenience food it can be a nightmare. It is amazing what they put yeast and dairy into. I don`t buy gravy either Thriftlady but if the OP doesnt know how to make it, it is nigh on impossible to get ready made gravy without yeast. OXO cubes, marmite etc all contain yeast. I think you can get Kallo stock cubes in yeast free variety.
I suggest you get a book or Google for some lists of foods to avoid and some recipe ideas:D0 -
Just gone wheat free myself - nearly 10 days now, already feeling better. Don't worry about weight loss (unless of course you are too thin to start with). I've lost 7 pounds - I think it was just the bloating?
I've found a lactose free cows milk - you can get it at ASDA, Sains, Mr T - called Lacto-free, white carton with black cow on it. About £1-35 per litre but ASDA have it on offer at the mo for £1. Much nearer in taste to milk than soya, not tried rice milk.It can replace cows milk in any recipe although I noticed a bit of a twang in tea at first.
I'm avoiding all grains at the moment and will try one at a time, tried porridge with my lacto free milk this morning and was fine.
Most supermarkets are pretty good now with their gluten and dairy free ranges esp ASDA. They do tend to be very expensive. I'm tending to stick with meat, fish, eggs, veg and fruit, fortunately I'm ok with cheese, yogurts and cream. I can also eat potatoes but haven't tried rice for a while.
For gravies I use the scrapings and juices off the meat, separate the fat, then add stock, wine, or water and reduce it down until it thickens, sometimes a splash of cream.
I think it's trial and error really, and cooking in a different way. I've bought some gluten free flour but not tried it yet.

Has your 'intolerance' been diagnosed by a doctor? If it has, then you could ask for a referral to a dietician. Dieticians are employed by the NHS to advise on this kind of problem and it would be tailored specifically to your needs.0

The OP is avoiding yeast, not gluten.

I have been trying to avoid yeast since Xmas and have noticed a really great change but as everyone says, its amazing how many things have yeast extract sneaked into them.
For gravy I use the meat juices and cornflour (gawd I miss Bisto!)
Lunches are wraps or chapatis (Asda do good chapatis) or if I am at home a baked pot

thriftlady - I'm trying to make trouble, this is a genuine enquiry. when we have a roast I do make "proper" gravy - but how could I do this when it's sausages for dinner? should i just make double from a roast and freeze it? I ask because, like the OP my DH is avoiding yeast and I previously made gravy using gravy browning to go with sausages.
