  • Hi,
Work out a full SOA showing income and expenditure. All your other creditors will have to take nominal payments until your CTax is paid. The other creditors may not like it but priority debts must be covered first.

One of our CTax arrears is with Rossendales, I copied the council in on all correspondance - I actually did most by email for speed. They refused the offer at first but I wrote again and they accepted. My SOA showed them that I was paying them, and the other councils, a pro-rata amount of my income after utlities, rent, travel, food and other essentials were taken off.

If you don't let them in there is not much they can do - but the council may not take it back.

    Good luck.

    Hello,
A friend of mine that uses this site religiously has told me to post here for advice so thought I'd give it a go...

She sounds like one of us...
Rossendales tactics have been brought to the attention of police in the past it seems, from a quick search on google.
Also search for them on youtube, their illegal actions are caught on tape by debtors

    Do you mean this one?

You might be able to see if the council will do an attachment of benefits - basically for some benefits they take a certain amount out each week/month until the debt is paid. There is a set amount they can take from benefits - this may be worth looking into as it sets the amount they can take - they take it before you get your benefits and you can then avoid any issues with the bailiffs.
Have a look on National Debtline website who have lots of useful factsheets - and will definitely have one on Council Tax and probably one explaining how attachment of benefits work.
Also make sure you are getting all the benefits you are entitled to for the year starting in April - ie get single person discount if applicable, any student exemptions, disabled help, council tax benefit etc, etc.
It's also worth getting in touch with the local MP.
    Good Luck

Make sure you keep all windows and doors locked and if you have bailiffs who are causing issues and you feel threatened then call the police.

Yes lol, though they seem bullies from various places online.
Here to learn and pass on my experiences.
Had a total of £8200 of debt written off due to harassment during 2010 and 2012.
  • Thanks everyone - went to CAB this morning, had to wait 3 hours but they told me that someone would be calling me to arrange an urgent appointment soon and to absolutely NOT answer the door to bailiffs!!

Good advice in a nutshell. If you have to talk to them, use the letterbox or an upstairs window.
  • they've called me now - got a meeting with a single parent advisor on tuesday :)
