Virgin Media increase broadband

I have just received the following from Virgin, (below beginning;- "Some important changes".......), now I am on ADSL on a legacy plan,(bundle 3), which is costing me £9.99 a month for 3Gb download, 3Mb speed, inclusive evening & weekend phone calls.
Now to suddenly go to £12.99 is a 30% increase,(what recession?)!

So I called them and requested my MAC, their response is as follows, which I think is a good result;-

"
I have altered you package to:

Unlimited download Broadband with up to 8Mb speeds

Free evening and weekend calls to UK Landlines.

£10 per month

This is a special offer to keep you as a customer and will run for 12 months.

After the 12 months it would increase to £14.99 but you can renegotiate it 12 months time and see if there is an equivalent or better offer at that point.

Many thanks for staying with Virgin your customer is very valuable to us.

Kind regards, Duncan."

Why is that a good result? You'll still be with VM ADSL.

It is each to their own and all ISPs will get good and bad reviews, yes I am on VM ADSL, (as said in my post), I have not had many problems with Virgin, and when I have it has been sorted courteously and quickly, ie.recently I had a problem where the connection would drop out on occasions at the weekend, on calling Virgin tech helpline,(on a freephone number), they went through various fixes and suggested it could be my modem,(yes modem a Speedtouch), so I asked if I could have a router and was informed they cost £40, I asked if I could have one FOC and was put through to another department who said the same, I asked again, was put on hold for a minute then told they would send one out to me FOC to reach me within the next 5 days, I received it the following day, i.e. within 24 hours.

So you see I have no complaints re Virgin.

Reason I thought it a good result? They wanted to increase my monthly premium by 30%, I made a free phone call and received the above result, unlimited download,(up from 3Gb), and "up to" 8Mb, up from 3Mb, inclusive weekend and evening calls to 01/02/03 numbers,(I know, I already have those), all for a 1p increase per month

Better the devil you know. I don't need super fast broadband, just enough to surf, e-mails and other low tech stuff, I know it could be got for less, but with my bad luck I may as well, for the time being, stay where I am, until something lower priced and better comes along.

OK so they are at the bottom of the list re your link, (they may be near the top of another one?), just below BT, Orange and other "popular" ISPs, but as with most of the human race, they complain but very rarely praise

    Mortgage-free Glee!
I have had many ISPs and I think Virgin are quite good although much better with cable than broadband. Stay well clear of TalkTalk as they are a nightmare to cancel.
