Can anyone please help me with a problem regarding Outlook Express

Not sure I understand you there. Any emails you have 'sent' but still in Outbox waiting to be sent will be deleted, so move them to another folder if you can before deleting/renaming outbox.dbx.

right I've deleted the file now

just been to outlook and the 'outbox' is still there but the email as gone, it is in the 'sent' items (just deleted it) so I dont know if it as been sent or by deleting the dbx file did the trick

If it is in 'Sent Items' then it has definitely been sent. The process is: you click Send on a new email; the email goes into Outbox; OE attempts to send it from Outbox; if successful the email moves to Sent Items, otherwise it stays in Outbox and OE tries again a few minutes later.

OE will have created a new outbox.dbx file - search for it and you'll see it.

Everything should be working now.
