t-mobile charging penalties for 'late' payments?
This is a bit annoying to say the least - the wife just received a letter from t-mobile that basically states due to the inconvenience we cause by paying her bill late (billing date is 6th of the month but i typically pay it after payday 1st) we're getting a penalty of 5 pounds added to the next bill.
what the.... the bill was _really_ low by my wife's standards, some 40 pounds which is barely the contract sum + vat and some texts charges... makes no sense - but the question really is, are they allowed to just call whatever penalties they feel like? i don't have the original contract to hand but my feeling at the moment is, i won't pay it and will terminate the contract with them if i have to on principle - they have been !!!!ing us around too long as it is.
just want to know if anyone has had a similar experience with t-mobile or any phone company and if they have any legal standing to do so.

are you saying that the billing date is the 6th but you dont pay it til the 1st of the next month?
Maybe I'm reading it wrong, but my understanding is that the billing date is 6th of each month but because the OP doesn't pay it until the 1st when he gets paid, it is not always cleared by 6th?0 -
If you invoice date is 6th, your payment date is usually 2 weeks later, ie 20th.
If you don't pay by this date they are within their rights to charge you a penalty.
Tmobile also usually put a bar on phones until the bill is paid, so that you cannot make any calls.
In theory they could put the bar on from the 20th when the bill isn't paid, until the 1st when you pay it.
If your billing date is inconvenient for you, you can ring them up and change it to a more suitable date.
Or better still ring up and set up a direct debit to go out on the 1st.0
