nah, being rather cynical here, i'd like to state that ebay make far too much money from aborted auctions............

I think you're absolutely correct! They couldn't careless.

You should all play along with the scammer though. If everyone did it they'd waste so much time.

I mentioned it in another thread - but just send them an email coming up with some excuse for not posting it every other day, ask to confirm the address a few times (the computer won't accept it, or GPS tracking isn't working in that area, or you need a photo of the property it's to be delivered too - the more obscure the most amused you'll be at wasting their time and getting your own back), say there was a problem with the customs declaration and you need their middle name, or that the price has changed again, absolutely any nonsense. Half of them have a very poor grasp of English so half the time they're not even sure what you're saying.

    Thank you for that :D
I need to get the mobile sold though :( and although your suggestion is a good one, it will also waste my time :(

    So what do I do?
Just re-list the item and put in even more clearly that I only ship to the UK?
    Bloody Scammers

    EDIT:
Just checked eBay. The Buyer only registered today and is already "No Longer Registered"

    AARRGGHHH............

Once your buyer is NARU you can file an NPB straight away, no need to wait for seven days.

If you get the email asking you to post to Nigeria:

    1) Report them to ebay using this link:
    http://pages.ebay.co.uk/help/contact_us/_base/index.html

Select: Selling and managing your item > Continue > Problems with a buyer or sale > Buyer paid or attempted to pay with fake/stolen funds > Continue > Email Us.

    2) Report for fake contact details (they will be fake):
    http://pages.ebay.co.uk/help/policies/identity-false.html

Then they will be suspended. Once they are (or if they already are NARU)

    3) Open the NPB dispute:
    http://feedback.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?CreateDispute

After that you can relist and if your phone sells the second time your relisting fee will be refunded too. If you relist before completing the Unpaid Item process you will not be eligible for a relisting fee refund.

To minimise the chance of Nigerian scammers, block low feedback bidders without a credit card on file, set up your listing to ship only to the UK.

Keep an eye on your bidders, use the advanced search to see what else they have been bidding on and block their bids if they appear to be dodgy.

I always use the "immediate payment required" option when I do a Buy It Now auction, which requires the buyer to pay through paypal.

This seemed to stop the Nigerian scammers when I started doing that instead.

Scammers do not read what you put in the auction text, so you may as well not bother.
You can only avoid them buying your phone by letting it go to auction and paypal only (immediate payment required if you want to do BIN). Even then it's not foolproof.
It's BOUGHT (to Buy), not BROUGHT (to bring) AND you cannot be frauded, only DEfrauded.

Please do not buy animals from a pet store. Visit your local sanctuary or centre and give a good home to an unloved or abandoned animal.
  • Right.
It's obvious that this Scammer isn't going to purchase my phone.
I have reported it to eBay and they've replied telling me to do a Non Paying Bidder.

I have to wait 7 days to do this though - and need to get the mobile sold ASAP.

PayPal is setup as a Premier account now.

Can anyone tell me if I'm allowed to re-list this item, and, taking in to account the good advice above, what is the best method to list this?

Why don't you try reporting him for false contact details?

If he's a scammer they'll undoubtedly be false. If this is the case he'll be naru'd and you can start your non paying bidder dispute.

If his details are correct... no harm done.

I have tried doing this, but it says I can't until the 17th

Yes... you have to report him for false details, then WAIT for him to become NARU.

When (if) he does, you'll then be able to file. (I think)

7 days will be too late I'm afraid.

Thanks for your useful advice though :D
