Poor coverage- can I cancel my contract?

I have a Motorola V3 and a 18 month contract with Vodafone.
As I am involved in the Royal Air Force I have found that on a lot of RAF stations I am mostly unable to recieve a usable signal or none at all. However other users on the stations who use O2 and tmobile and Tesco have no problem at all. I have made contact with Vodafone who say that they do not gaurauntee 100% coverage and when I said that in effect the phone was unusable and wish to cancel my contract,in that case they said it would cost me £260 to cancel my 18 month contract. Is there anything I can do?

get stationed elsewhere? although it's unfair, Vodafone are right, they don't guarantee coverage, it's up to the user to check that they have coverage where they intend to use the phone. As you don't get a choice where to go it is a bit harsh compared to say someone choosing to move house and finding they have no coverage.
Are you stuck where you are for a while i.e. 3 or 6 months? You could always say you are being posted abroad and wish the contract to be on hold for that amount of time then get a new contract (or just a Sim card on PAYG to tide you over). I can't imagine them not having a facility where they can put contracts on hold for servicemen/women when out of the country for a set amount of time.0 -
Give Vodafone a call and explain your situation, they must just help if you bought the phone within the last 14 days. Especially if you bought it online as you could use the 'cooling off' period as an excuse to return the item.Treat others as you would like to be treated :A0

reduce tarrif to minumin, and then pay it off, write a letter to the head of vodafone and kick up a fuss. also write to watch dogs etc. if in the first 14 days of contract it can be canceled straight away.I Don't like you!0
