New problems ..follow on from last post

Hi i was having problems with being disconected and thought it would be better that i start a new thread, my other thread is here...

http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/showthread.html?t=2239277

After finally geting through to stage 2 at AOL yesterday i was delighted only for it to backfire
Tuesday, stage 2 said they were going to run some tests etc i asked for a referance number as he said that if i didnt hear from them i was to call them back wednesday giving 24hrs so they could run tests.

Didnt hear from them off course but only got disconected once in the 24 hrs so that was better , however the other problem still existed where my windows defender still disables itself on start up ! pluss a new problem occured too , clicking on firefox icon nothing happened so i decided to try and uninstall that but i got a mesage saying i cant because its already running ? it wasnt visible so i went into ctrl/alt/del and start task manager and managed to disable the invisible firefox !! eventually
this was after i called AOL quoating my ref number which wasnt going to get me anywhere because even with a ref number in hand for stage 2 the stage 1 still insisted on asking me all the usuall Q about filters blah blah blah...............eventually he said he would put me through to stage 2.music , music , music THEN cut off !! 3 times this happened i was raging
I think the conection problem is fixed now & i have managed to uninstall firefox ( but i didnt want to ) even reinstalling it , it still doesnt run visibley , but is running in background and this windows defender thing is annoying me too ie when switch on lap top i get a mesage saying windows defender is turned off ! i dont understand why this is happening

The other major thing which is annoying is that i cannot seem to get my bank online , going through fav's typing it in to address bar , or googling it .

Iam sure my dell laptop is healthy i truly feel that something is up and its to do with AOL .

Unless anybody here has any other sugestions for me ? cant spend another day sitting here trying to sort this

Any ideas please ?
thanks

Have you done the things that were suggested in your last thread:
Test with ethernet cable not wireless?
Test with router plugged into BT test socket under master socket faceplate?
    Run BT Quietline test?
No free lunch, and no free laptop ;)
  • Hi macman the conection problem seems to be fixed now, AOL done tests on the line
I have just done another AVG scan and found 3 trojan horse pakes EOG

Scan now finished and its telling me 3 infections found and 3 removed healed

Is that all that i have to do in reg to these infections , has AVG removed them completly ?

    Thanks

The tests suggested have nothing to with AOL, they relate to your PC/wireless set up, your internal extension wiring, and your line rental supplier (unless the latter is AOL).
If the fault lies in those areas, it will not show up on any line tests AOL do. That's why you need to do these simple tests yourself to eliminate those areas.
Trojans: if AVG indicates that it has removed them, no further action is required-except you should get a better AV program, AVG Free edn is not very good these days.

  • Thanks , what AV programme do you sugest ?

I done the test on my phone bt quiteline , and will do the other two later sorry i thought AOL were checking my line

Try Avast (free) or Kaspersky (free if you use Barclays Internet Banking).
AOL as your ISP can test your line for broadband problems. If there is a physical line problem (as indicated by the QL test) then you need to speak to your line provider. Not sure how you think AOL can test your internal wiring or wireles set up-this has nothing to do with them, it's entirely your responsibility.
So what was the result of the QL test?

  • Worriedsik - I have nit viewed your other log but if avg is finding stuff then I would suggest that we need to see what is happening under the hood.

Have you got malwarebytes installed on your machine? If so start it up, update and run a full scan and then post the log here

Reluctant, FYI the OP posted MBAM and HJT logs in the other thread, there appeared to be some problem acting on what alienRIK suggested deleting in response to the HJT log (MBAM was clean).
