NHS Agenda for Change - really fed up - anyone with any expertise?

Hi
Wondered if anyone out there has had a NHS A4C banding review rejected and what if anything can be done about it. I know it says no right of appeal but surely there must be something that can be done if to anyone that knows about my post it's a total joke that this has happened. Background is, was assimilated to one band lower than than my original Whitley Council grade, tried to appeal this via review process and it's been unsuccessful.

Had loads of expereince (as a company!)

If you have appealed and been unsucessful it means your role does not score enough point to be banded at a 4.

What post is it? If the post has been published as a "national outline" you can clearly see what it takes to take it from a 3 to a 4, but your line manager has to agree that the outline reflects the job you do.

We don't get involved unless you can demonstrate the difference and get HR sign off.

I assume your union is no help too.

When filling out review form manager was involved and also union and staff side rep at an informal meeting prior to submitting review. They were all helpful, pointed out which sections to concentrate on to match to the higher band national profile. Manager signed off additional information submitted no problem. Got extra points for some of the sections which now match the higher band post. The thing is they seem to have taken no account whatsoever of the 2 main sections - 2 and 12 if I remember correctly, education and freedom to act which HAVE to match. Same points came back although additional information should, I would have thought, taken it to the higher band.

Sorry, should have added job was A&C 5, assimilated to band 4, trying to get a Band 5 again.
  • I thought the whole A4C idea was that nobody would end up taking a pay cut :( Has this happened or were you assimilated onto a similar pay point from whitley to A4C?

    Why did you think that?

Have you asked at other NHS trusts for similar JD's to look at how they band? That might help yours
  • Gosh, Is Agenda for Change still going on?

To be honest, I did think once the review had been signed off that was it. It sounds like you and your manager went through all the steps for the review you would expect.

You have my sympathy, it is rubbish being downgraded. I think it is what this scheme was designed for.

Anyone who was "banded" lower under A4C should have got "protection" for about 3 years from the assimilation point. This gives time for the actual salary to catch up.

Thats the bit I was thinking of, pay protection to prevent a pay cut
  • Yes, am on payment protection. Any cost of living increments are taken off this though so the protection gets lower until salary eventually catches up. Was at the top of my Whitley scale about 5 years ago on the original grade - if I'd got the band 5 I would have hoped to be placed at a point on the scale which would have shown some pay increase. As it is been in post 10 years and to have been waiting for the A4C process to be finished for a few years including the review process and then to be downgraded is a pain in the bahookey to say the least!
