When I used to cycle to work I just put my work clothes in a backpack. Takes 30 seconds to change when I get there.

I have since lost that job and can no longer cycle beacuse I now work as a field engineer so have a tool box and all the other equipment to carry.

You can get a bike trailer to easily carry all those tools!

I refer the honourable gentleman to the response I gave some days ago.

HOWEVER. If cycling was quicker, it would probably become an option. Perhaps another feeble excuse but.......

An honest one! Out of all these excuses there's one guy who honestly says he can't be arsed! well done that man!

I even do the weekly shop on my bike now..... these are ace!

just register with waitrose's self scan handheld deeleys and use the trailer as a pull along shopping trolly. Walk straight out the store, the self scan debits your account so not even any need to queue at the tills. Hook up the trailer and pedal off. Really quick!
  • i used to cycle to college when i was a skint apprentice, it was an 8 mile cycle it took me about 25 -30 minutes.

In an urban area, with a few sets of traffic lights to negotiate? That's not bad going! Potential to have been the next Chris Boardman?

I was just wondering why there seems to be so few people on here that cycle/ask questions about cycling, especially as cycling is so MSE. :money:

    Do any of you cycle?

If you don't, have you ever considered it?

    If not why not?

What would help you to do it?
    personally,.........too fat:rotfl:/old.........lol

On the 'Instructables' website there are several different plans for who are a bit handy to make their own bike trailer.
Liverpool is one of the wonders of Britain,
What it may grow to in time, I know not what.

when your young and stupid traffic lights are never a problem. stop for nothing literally.
i did used to be fast, considering it was an all terrain bike on the road i did ok. i could have cycled all day and all night back then in any kinds of weather.
now i struggle to do more than 10 miles. thats what driving liscences do to you! im trying to get back into it though, slowly but surely.
    drivings made me too soft.

  • I was quite active before I passed my driving test too. Team man hunt round the schemes, Hide and seek, walk for miles to hide from the polis to have my carry out.
Then you pass your test. Walk nowhere, childhood games are now childish lol.
Next thing you get a job where your not very active. Theres 3 stone right away. Then you get another job doing even less. Another 5 stone. But it pays enough for crisps and Mars Bars.
Before you know it, a bike seats like a thong and any time you try to get back into it, your !!!! hurts for 3 days.
Last time I tried it, I went 5 miles (2.5 miles downhill then 2.5 miles back up again).
Surprisingly enough, I was ok untill I reached half way.

this story is so sad but so true for me,i think you must know me! in the summer mornings i get up early and go out on the bike and do a few miles before work and then a few when i come home after work. its pleasant and enjoyable in the summer, but i struggle getting out of bed to go to work in the winter never mind getting up earlier to go out and cycle before work.

  • My only claim to fame is thats me now 3 years off the cigarettes. If you can quit smoking, losing weight should be a walk in the park.
I hate my job but cant change unless I lose weight (for the job I'd rather have).
12 hour shifts dont help either. When you cant be arsed normally, theres no hope after working all day/night.

i don't mind my job, it has good days, bad days, and some long days aswell, but in the main its ok.
