Mobile phone insurance - Lloyds Silver Account

My wife bought an iPhone in her name and gifted it to me. I needed an insurance for that. I bank with Lloyds TSB and found out that their silver account gives mobile insurance + other benefits too. so took that (Costs 7.95 a month).
The policy document defines the mobile phone which gets cover as "a handset which is owned by the account holder". Since I dont own the phone (it is in my wife's name), I thought I will cancel the insurrance. When I called the insurance provider (Lifestyle group), they said, since we both live at the same address, the phone is covered when I use it, even though it is in my wife's name. I asked him to give that in writing, but said he cant do it. However he said he is going to put a note on my account stating that the phone is owned by my wife and it should not be a problem if I have to make a claim in future.
Do you think I should believe this and retain my insurance? Has anyone faced this scenario before?
Thanks a lot for reading.

Cynic that I am I don't believe anything until I have it in writing. You could call back and speak to someone else and ask them if such a note has been placed on your account, if its there you should be OK, if not I would cancel and seek cover elsewhere.0

If you want to be sure, pay your wife 1 penny, get an receipt from her for 1p in full payment for the iphone, then you "own" it.
Even if the contract is in her name, the handset itself is owned by whoever she gives/sells it to.0 -

Are you sure? Is that really possible? What sort of receipt should I take from her? Just a normal letter confirming this?
Thanks
