    Try this; http://download.cnet.com/Auslogics-Disk-Defrag/3000-2094_4-10567503.html

Defrag much much better than the windows installed one.

You haven't answered the what's slow question, if it's just the web, it could be IE/addons (try firefox), or your net connection

If it's not any better yet, uninstall these in order, test after each one, and see if it cures it

Zonealarm (make sure windows firewall is switched on before uninstalling, especially if you don't have a router)

    Spybot
    AVG

    Replace with avast or avira.

Hi, yes it is the internet, hope I explain this correctly. The whole PC is slow but worse if I have a window open then i want to open another window on that page it won't load at all.
I have to keep stopping and refreshing it untill it lets in through.

I have hard wire internet with virgin and a Netgear router attached for the boys Xboxes and another PC which all work fine. I did wonder if someone else could be using the router but it is password protected. I must admit I don't know anything about this type of thing and when i have tried to see netwok users it only shows my connection.

I will try to install firefox and see if is any better, if not i will follow the rest of the instructions.

    thank-you

install http://www.piriform.com/ccleaner/download/standard (untick the yahoo toolbar option during installation), to clear out your temp junk.

What did you install before it went slow?

Were the 16 entries in the startup tab in the tools option of ccleaner ?
Anything in the startup list can simply be disabled with a click and later on enabled - no need to delete anything yet.
I would disable ZA anda couple of others first then disable some more and see how it goes.

I think the problems started when i connected the router.
I have installed firefox, but it just keeps saying loading.
I have also just installed and ran piriform ccleaner. Do I leave my other ccleaner installed aswell.

    I will just retry Firefox.

    Thank-you

Is IE is set to never dial a connection? (Tools, internet options connections), and check there is nothing in lan settings.

Are you using a hardwired ethernet lead?

    Does browsing work eventually?

ZA sits between you and the router, it would be the first thing to try.
