Internet provider with out line rental takeover

My daughter is due to have a BT landline installed/connected any day now. She is keen to have a broadband connection but not with bt. I've been asked if there are any internet providers out there that don't request taking over the line rental. Someone told me that Plusnet do that. That being so, has anyone any experience of this type of operation and does anyone know of any other providers that don't require a rental takeover. We're also looking at a 12 month only contract.

I didn't know any ISP took over the line rental unless you want them to? Years since I've had mine so maybe it's all changed now.

This is probably not relevant to your Daughter, but I got my Mum a Broadband account with Namesco a couple of years ago and she still has her BT line rental.

I picked them because they are UK based and only have UK call centres. She's 82 and hard of hearing, so I wouldn't inflict the unintelligible overseas "support" call centre that my ISP uses on her.

I think they cost about £15 a month, so not the cheapest, but she's never had any trouble with her service, and the only time I've phoned their support with a query for her, they've been very helpful and friendly. No complaints.
Love the animals: God has given them the rudiments of thought and joy untroubled. Do not trouble their joy, don't harrass them, don't deprive them of their happiness.

I've been looking around at broadband myself the last couple of days and two that spring to mind are Be broadband and o2 - as far as I know they just add their broadband services to a BT line, rather than ask you to move your line rental to them. Both of those say they have 12 month contracts too.

I'm pretty sure there are quite a few others too, especially if you don't mind download limits - I just wasn't looking at them so I don't know which (though yes, I think plusnet was one of them where you could take broadband only).

Does she have Sky TV, they do free basic broadband, free evening and weekend telephone calls, depending on where you live of course.
make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.

Yes there are plenty of ISP's that don't take over your phone line. Have a look at the ThinkBroadband website for detailed comparisons then come back to MSE and look for referrals and cashback deals.
