How do I know what the phone number is? Vodaphone and CPW

Received a Sony Ericsson W302 from Carphone Warehouse yesterday. Also ordered a Vodaphone PAYG sim with £15 credit. Ordered it on behalf of daughter, who has bought it for boyfriend as a birthday present. She wanted to have it set up and running before giving it to him, so has charged phone and inserted sim. Appears to work ok.
Neither the box nor the sim state what the phone number is. I have checked all over box and sim card pack...
According to CPW website I have to wait upto 48hrs to receive the free credit, so currently the phone has no credit, so we cannot make calls (else, we would ring another mobile to see what number was calling )
Is there anyway of telling what the number is?
Also, anyone have experience of CPW/Vodaphone credits etc. Do they arrive within 48hrs? How do they work- do we get a text telling us credit applied etc?
Thanks for any help

You can enter *#100# and press dial/send to get the number. This advice is written on the inside of the SIM pack I have here, but they probably vary.
It also works for virtual brands that use Vodafone, like the BT SIM I just checked.
also useful: *#1345# to find out the credit, or you can call 2345 and it's one of the items in the menu0 -
It will be a miracle if you get your your credit without numerous phone calls and emails. I finally had to email Carphone Warehouse CEO Charles Dunstan last time before I got any joy. I have just bought my wife a new phone and after 8 days £10 credit still not on Orange Sim despite several emails to what is laughingly known as "Customer Care" so I have just emailed Charles Dunstan with the other emails attached.
