cheapest way to get online

I only want to use internet for sending messages to threads or for internet dating (if I ever get brave enough to give it a go).

I currently dont have internet at home at all, so only go online from work.

I dont want to read books online, or watch movies or download anything at all, not interested in any of that.

So which would be the cheapest way for me to have very simple limited internet access?

if possible i'd rather not sign up for any lengthy contracts as I just cant see me using the internet very much.

any help anyone on here can give me will be greatly appreciated :)

Do you have access to a PC at home?
If so you could get a mobile dongle - a few offers around at the moment, but do check coverage in your area.

    Hello again PGShick!

I discovered mobile broadband a while back, and have been using it ever since September 2008. The prices have dropped a lot since then.

I too wanted to avoid contracts, registration, giving bank or card details etc. so I have been buying prepaid ready-to-go 3 network dongles.

I got one with 24gb allowance for £118.24: it will last either for 24 months or earlier if the allowance runs out. You can get 12gb for £69.99 now from Dixons online. I don't download music or films or play games, so an allowance of 1gb per month was ample. More and more sites are getting moving ads and links, so I am using more just for that. However, the price is coming down.

You could try a 3gb prepaid dongle to see how good the service is.

How about just a cheap home broadband service? I realise you'd have to take a contract, but you can get it from as low as £5.99 a month.

    Some of the cheapest providers:
    Plusnet Value - £5.99
    TalkTalk Essentials - £6.99
    Be Value - £7.50

Otherwise, mobile broadband you can pay per day from about £2, plus about £20 one-off for the dongle (usb modem).
  • My prepaid mobile BB costs around £5 per month.
