macerator loo?

macerator loo?

we want to add a loo and a shower in the basement of my mum's house (she already has one in the other side of the house) . however apparently you need a bit of a lean to put a loo and do the plumbing into the other loo and then the waste which is near the road. we are told a macerator may be cheaper and solution. does anyone know how this works exactly. also this type of labour and parts cost. thanks

    Hi,
    https://www.saniflo.co.uk should help.

A saniflo will chop up the waste and pump it through 22mm piework to a suitable drain thus avoiding the need to run 110mm pipework.

Cost depends on model but approx £350 ish . If you do get one be very carefull what goes down the loo as blockages occour easily. Labour costs are very difficult to say without detals but running the small 22mm pipe is MUCH easier and cheaper than running 110mm pipe in the traditional way..

Personally I would have it done the traditional way if at all possible as
    1) No need to worry about blockages 2) Like any other electrical appliance it wont last forevor so will need replacing eventually.3) No noise from traditional plumbing and 4) no need to have an unsightly saniflo box behind the loo.

Having said the above saniflos have been around since I can remember ( 20 years plumbing ) and offer a good solution to fitting a loo where its otherwise impossible / difficult.

Makes other than Saniflo are also available but less common, I think Grundfos also make them nowadays.

    Regards

On the internet you can be anything you want. It`s strange so many people choose to be rude and stupid.

IMO, Grundfos or a better unit, but have only been on the market for a couple of years, so reliability maybe a issue.
But Grundfos are World leaders in making pumps.
  • we bought a macerator from screwfix for £200 three years ago - were putting a loo in upstairs. is quite noisy and blocks easily but you only have to take off the cover to remove blockage. would recommend to anyone who cant tap into their main soil pipe. hope this helps

Yes we did the same with a Saniflo a few years ago.
Did a great job but very noisy. Be sure not to fit it near a bedroom that you don't control the use off (kids room or lodger) as it might wake you every flush!
Ours was also attached to a shower and would pump the water form the shower when it was used.
Fortune's always hiding, I've looked everywhere......

my mum has a macerator loo and has had nothing but troubles with it. Apparently this is very common as well.

They get blockages, the pump has gone abouut 3 times!! and the plumper said this is what happens with most macerators!!

If possible plumb it in to the mains sewerage more expensive inititally but cheaper in the long run.

We had a sanislim in our last ensuite and are having one in our new one. No problems really EXCEPT the odd turnover for no apparent reason and then when my wife flushed a ring down the toilet!!!
