Wainwrights food, please help

are you sure its half a tray per day, not per meal ?- that equates to less than 200g of wet food a day, which seems very little, (especially as he was eating 800g a day of pedigree) wet food is about 2/3 moisture...
How heavy is your dog?0 -
Feeding Guide (approximate per day)
Small Breeds (5-12kg): (Daily Feed in Trays) 1/4-1/3 tray;
Medium Breeds (12-25kg):.33–3/4 tray;
Large Breeds (25-45kg): 3/4-1 tray;
Giant Breeds (45-70kg): 1-2 trays.0 -
my dog is 18kg, which would be 1/2 tray dailyGood things come to those who wait!0

Doesn't sound like much ... my cat is 6.5kg and he has 200g raw food per day which is solid nutrition, no fillers or jelly!Declutterbug-in-progress.⭐️⭐️⭐️ ⭐️⭐️0

it does not sound like much at all - my dog is 12kg and is on almost 200g of dry food...
...is he hungry on it?
I would be interested to know whether it is enough to maintain his weight and condition - presumably it is, duck is quite fatty, so I presume its a high calorie food, but it is a small volume for him.
If you find he is hungry, you can add other stuff to bulk it out, mixer, veg etc.. but by the time you have done that I cannot see any advantage over buying a cheaper food with cereal/veg fillers in it. You are just adding the fillers yourself, after all...0 -
yeah thats why i was a bit confused, i dont want him to be hungry! Iv been gradually putting it with his pedigree, but he always seems hungry, hes always scrabbing for food, and could probably eat double of what i feed him, hes not underweight or anything, i just think he might be greedy? Im not sure really, but he is the correct weight and sizeGood things come to those who wait!0

And Foreign Correspondent isnt a nutritionist so if you are choosing to go with this type of complete food then go for it.
Not all foods are equal
We know ourselves as humans that a steak and salad is going to be more nutritious and better for us that a big mac and large fries
We also know we are going to have to eat a huge bag of apples to give us enough energy to get through the day - and that we would be passing huge amounts down the toilet in compensation
Just because the amounts are small its prolly a lot better content wise than any cheap food stuffed full of rubbish
High quality wet foods(not that I am saying this is high quality at all) are only fed in what we think are tiny amounts. If you think that that portion size is small then try a BARF diet - you would be looking to feed a mere 18gr of raw food a day ( 10% of body weight)0 -
18 grams - really?
10% of 18 kg is 1.8 kg, which would be a huge amount! I thought raw feeding was something like 3% of body weight?
ETA - none of us are animal nutritionists as far as I am aware, we all have our opinions though, which are probably equally as valid. Some dogs do seem to need foods that are bulked out, especially if they tend to be hungry or greedy dogs!0 -
Hi,
I started giving my English Bull Terrier the Wainwright's trays about 3 months ago. He absolutely loves it. He weighs 26kg so he has one tray per day. I don't mix anything with it but he does have the occasional bonio as well. I alternate this with giving him freshly cooked stuff some days (usually mince, rice and peas).
I think your staffie will be fine on half a tray but you'll probably still need to give him a biscuit or two throughout the day. I agree, it doesn't look much. My dog has wolfed it down by the time I've put the tray in the bin. A friend of mine has a little dog (shitzu) and she only has a quarter of a tray a day. She's been on it for about 6 months and has never been healthier. Wainwright's seem to know what they're doing.
Edit: p.s. your staffie's gorgeous.0 -

So its late, Im tired and I dont have my books here
But you - you cant agree with whats showing on a feeding chart - you always have to know better,
Now the lass is happy enough to feed the wainwrights - you are happy to feed cheap kibble - do we all question the makers of the kibble you feed on their recommended allowances?
Give it a rest0
