    Hello,
Some GOOD NEWS for everyone.
In the 80's and 90's I had a Platinum account with Lloyds. I paid £12/month charges. I thought about trying to claim the charges back but a number of people were saying there was a six year time limit to claims.
Anyway I decided to give it a go at the beginning of this month. I followed the guidelines on the main site and filed my claim through the Resolver service that Martin recommends. To be honest I wasn't holding out much hope as this was nearly 30 years ago. I thought if anything I might get an email saying their records do not go back that far.

Imagine my surprise then when a cheque for £654 from Lloyds dropped onto the doormat earlier this week, 13 days after I put the claim in! :T:j.
Don't give up! If you have a legitimate claim go for it!

That's great but this is for bank charges not packaged accounts. 654 is within the auto payment range as it's easier not to fight it. MSE recommends resolver because they are an investor and make money selling your data to customers after it has been made anonymous. Also there is no 6 year limit blanket it depends on the claim - in this case if the bank had wanted to they could have time barred this complaint as it has been more than 6 years since you took it out but you got lucky

Sam Vimes' Boots Theory of Socioeconomic Unfairness:

People are rich because they spend less money. A poor man buys $10 boots that last a season or two before he's walking in wet shoes and has to buy another pair. A rich man buys $50 boots that are made better and give him 10 years of dry feet. The poor man has spent $100 over those 10 years and still has wet feet.

  • After reading the mis-selling checklist I believe I may have had a Lloyds bank account which was mis-sold at the time. I closed the lloyds account around 5-6 years ago but prior to closing I had the account for approx. 10 years and paid a monthly fee for the account (I think it was around £18 per month). Due to the length of time since I held the account I do not have any old bank account statements or records to establish which of the Lloyds accounts it was and what my account number was etc. Is there any way that I can still make a claim?

You cannot be missold bank charges.

This thread is not about that. You are best asking in a more appropriate place by copying and pasting your post on a new thread.

  • I need some help here please. In January, using your template letters I tried to revive a claim for bank charges from 2000 - 2006. Although I know it was a while a go I felt it was worth a try as it totals around £25,800 and I have evidence that I tried years earlier to receive a refund. My husband tried to end his life in 2007 as a direct result of the pressure being placed on him by the banks and it has taken me some time to build the confidence to stand up against them without fear of further threats. However I havent heard anything from Lloyds not even confirmation of receipt. Whats the best number to ring and what are my options now? Informed advice appreciated

You won't get anywhere with requests for historical bank charges. The Banks won their court case in 2009 and any "pending" cases were then rejected. Evidence of trying in the past will be useless to you, therefore.

Best advice is to read through this thread, there are no success stories other than from people in current financial hardship. Even then, refunds tend to be only from the last six months and are only ever "Goodwill" gestures.

As to your letter not even being acknowledged by the Bank, that just means they are unlikely to have received it.

If you decide to send another one, don't send it "Recorded", just get a receipt of posting. Probably best not to demand or threaten to "fight" the bank.

You must have read an old article as there is no current template to use.

The banks won the court case in 2009. That boat has sailed.

There is such a template,Dunstonh, but it does not make it clear enough that only people in current financial hardship are likely to get anything at all. The article needs a thorough re-write and overhaul, but it's still on the front page with the PPI complaint templates...

Typical MSE. They left their pension article out-of-date 5 years after their example product was withdrawn by the provider.

  • To quote form this site (updated Feb 17):
"Bank charges reclaiming didn't end after the court case in 2009, people still regularly get some of their excess charges back. They can add up to £1,000s, joining the £1bn already repaid.

If you're in financial hardship, you could reclaim the charges for breaching your overdraft. This is a step-by-step guide to doing just that, including free template letters."

This is the templates I used so why is it all still on the site if the boat has sailed

Is there no one we can rely on anymore

You need to read the article carefully, it doesn't mention anything about reclaiming bank charges from years ago.

I agree it encourages spurious complaints which have no chance of success...

    It's not that much out-of-date...
