Hi Guys,
Needs some good advice.
Basically I have banked with santander (formally alliance and leicester) & MBNA (formally alliance and leicester i think), and was wondering should I ring them both up as I have 2 accounts in question one is a current account and the other is a credit card. I have had these account for around 8-10 years and have lots of charges on them.
The question is should i call them both and ask for a statement of charges or full statements and also should I write to them via post, which would be better and quicker. Also If i request statements for the last 8-10 years will it cost a maximum of £10 or more??
Can you please give me some advice as soon as possible so I can get the ball rolling.
Thanks people.0 -

Personally, I'd write. I always write so that I have a record of it. Telephone requests are so easy to "lose".Also If i request statements for the last 8-10 years will it cost a maximum of £10 or more??
A maximum of £10 - that's part of the data protection legislation. Make sure you ask for a "complete list of transactions on the account" and NOT statements. Statement reprints are a lot more expensive and they can charge you tons for them.
Good luck!0 -
just had refund from barclays after initially being refused.
Got sent a copy of my initial contract, with my signature on. But i wrote back stating that the whole form was in someone elses handwriting. The ppi box was ticked, but i never ticked it, i only signed it.
They accepted this and offered me £750. It took 9 months all in all but it was worth it in the end.
Thanks to this website!0 -

Hi All
I have just called Barclays requesting a list of Charges for the last 6 years and the lady advise me that they do not have to pay out now even due to hardship, They could send me a list of charges but I would have to pay for this. Has anyone else had dealing with Barclays that could give me some advise as I seem to be getting no where.
Many Thanks0 -

The banks are not obliged to pay out for any reason if they don't want to - unless they have made an error.
Send your letter and £10 cheque to:
Barclays Bank
Barclays Data Protection
Radbroke Hall
Knutsford
Cheshire
WA16 9EU
(better to have everything in writing for your records)
Follow all the advice from MSE site and use the template letter on there for requesting all your data (don't ask specifically for statements as such, more costly!)
Checkout the Financial Ombudsman Services criteria for claiming charges under hardship and see if you might qualify.0 -

Social Security Administration Act 1992[/QUOTE]
It's called, I think, Act of first right to appropriation.
I can find loads of stuff but can't seem to copy and paste.
Google - 'social security administration act 1992 act of first right to appropriation' and see what comes up0 -
Hi all,
I am trying to claim back unfair charges for Lloyds TSB.
I sent my first letter (Request for Data) to which I had a speedy response.
It was sent to:
Lloyds Bank
Swallow House
10 Swallow Street
Birmingham
B1 2AL
Yesterday I sent the 2nd letter to the same address via Special Delivery and it has come back ticked addresse gone away?
Am I sending it to the wrong address, or could it be that they are just not accepting special deliverys?
Any help or assistance is greatly appreciated.0 -
Hello,
Just wanting a little bit of advice on whether to proceed or take an offer from my bank - Barclays.
Last year my mum passed away and due to stress and unexpected money commitments I found myself in my unplanned overdraft - starting May 2011.
Up until this month I was still in this and finding myself being charge £100 per month for the privilege of this in which I did not request.
Having read Martins advise on Financial hardship claims etc. (which Barclays have certainly contributed to in charging me) I wrote to Barclays explaining my situation.
On Friday night I received a phone call from Barclays offering me £100 compensation. I refused this on the phone - I didn't appreciate the guys pushy manner and saying if I didn't take it there and then they wouldn't offer it again.
Then yesterday I receive a letter from them saying this offer is open for 8 weeks for me to take the £100.
I don't want to take this at the risk of grabbing the first amount offered, but then I also don't want to turn this down and then come away with nothing.
I believe over the last year I've been charged £1000 so I really was hoping for more then just £100.
Any thoughts/suggestions on where I should go from here? Is my case worth pursuing or should I take the £100?
Much appreciated
katy0
