persuade me not to give up motoring in the UK
cost to buy a (semi ok) car.... £££££
cost to repair at garages £££
cost to repair DIY small problems. ££
fuel costs ££
Insurance £££
MOT £
Road Tax £
Breakdown cover £
accessories £
devaluation, vandalism, theft. £-£££?
Parking Costs £-££?
Parking fines, speeding fines ££
licence renewal £
VERSUS
a yearly travel pass £££
Im thinking whether to give up, it just doesnt seem to make financial sense even though the convenience is helpful - I live in a big city where the only thing stopping me is time.....as I live in the suburbs the car shaves off a good 1hr of my commute time.
It would mean waking up an hour earlier, and going to be an hour later. Is the expense worth it?
I cant help but feel that motoring in the UK is just an unpleasant overall experience and costly too.....
how many have at one time decided just to sell and go to the horror of those mobile mental hospitals known as public transport?

Hell is other people - public transport is purgatory."You were only supposed to blow the bl**dy doors off!!"0

I'd agree with that. I spend 3 hours a day on the train (IF they are working correctly, if not more) and its soul destroying. Thing is that on a day to day basis it makes sense for me to do so (approx £150 a month saving over driving)
Ask yourself if you can seriously put up with public transport - try it for a fortnight and see what you think.Proud of who, and what, I am. :female::male::cool:0 -

I love my cars and could not do with out them. By car the work journey takes just 40 minutes. When i don't use the car..
its a 10 minute walk to the bus station
Up to a 15 minute wait for the first bus.
2 buses that take about 1 and a half hours to get to my work area
Then another 10 minute walk.0 -
I used to quite enjoy travelling on the train.Happy chappy0

Bus drivers are grumpy. Smelly people travel on buses. Buses stink of diesel fumes and sometimes you have to stand up. Buses stop early in rural areas. Fat people sit next to you and squash you against the window. You have to wait for them in the rain and bad weather and sometimes they don't turn up.0

And why should I pay £96 for an open off peak return when the same journey by car costs £50 in petrol and I can go when where and how I want, including when I reach my destination, and go doorstep to doorstep. All for the initial outlay of the cost of the car, insurance, tax, mot etc.
These days you get idiots like these...tomstickland wrote: »I used to quite enjoy travelling on the train.
