Help needed with my dongle please!

Hi,
I have a dongle that I plug into my computer to get internet connection. Recently, after a good 2 or 3 months of being quite fast, it has slowed down and I don't know why.
I haven't gone over my limit on usage, but my computer is quite old and keeps popping up with messages about virtual memory. Would this slow my internet down and also would buying a laptop help me?
Would really appreciate advice from someone!
Thanks very much :-)

Well the virtual memory messages do suggest you are low on real physical memory but the real question is why would they suddenly appear if nothing extra is being run? Well unfortunately I suspect that something else probably is being run and that is probably why your connection has slowed down too.
I'd suggest that you download and run Malwarebytes as a first step. http://www.malwarebytes.org/
I'm no virus man - the one who I see here most often is AlienRik so maybe he'll have more requests (probably a HiJackThis run).0 -
This could be lots of things - Most fixable.
Do you know how much RAM your laptop has?
Windows normally is set to control its own virtual memory.
I once saw a laptop with the same problem - After a bit of looking at settings I discovered that once of the 2 RAM chips has slipped out of its socket. I put it back in and all was well again.0 -
I appreciate you getting back to me I think I will have to get osmeone out to look at it.
Thanks again.:beer:0 -

So what's the point of posting on here? People have suggested practical steps that might fix the problem, why not work through them and report back rather than just getting someone in to fix something that might be quite straightforward? No free lunch, and no free laptop0 -
Try uninstalling your security (anti-virus) and then installing Microsoft's version https://www.microsoft.com/security_essentials
Or post the full spec of you machine for us to comment.0
