High cost of food for renal diet

I have asked already and my first reply I intend as to offer an alternative diet for her pet ;-)
The OP's cat has been diagnosed with renal problems and is following her vet's advice. I really don't think it's advisable for someone on an internet forum to persuade her to completely change her diet under the circumstances. She was asking for a cheaper source of the prescribed diet, not for advice on what to feed her cat“You can please some of the people some of the time, all of the people some of the time, some of the people all of the time, but you can never please all of the people all of the time.”0 -
lmao.. could you clarify how "im persuading her"... come on stop being so extreme !!
Once again i was just offering food for thought, yr determined to be negative so I will leave it at that with you.0 -
Yes the haddock was white fish and had no salt in it, so not sure why he seemed to be drinking extra water. May just be coincidence. I will be sticking to the vet's advice, despite the cost of the food because a) the cat is now a happy cat with sleek and silky fur and b) if I don't comply with the vet's recommendations, I don't imagine Petplan will pay out next time I make a claim (they're tricksy enough to extract money out of as it is!).
Regarding serving half portions, I had been doing that, but I had also noticed that sometimes if you put fresh food with the "stale" (the cat's opinion not mine!) food he would then eat it all. Other times that backfires and he eats none. I just wish there were more flavours in the Royal Canin range.
My cat usually supplements his own diet with raw food, squirrels in particular. He usually just leaves the tail and the gallbladder (not nice when you find it in the garage I have to say ).
Interestingly, I always remember my grandmother saying they never bought cat food for the cat she had - there was no such thing in the shops back then. They just used to give titbits, leftovers and offal and the cat was expected to provide for itself as well!0
