  • it always amazes me how people (on this board in particular) are always so quick to deviate a thread away from the OP's question without providing any advice about the matter at hand. Try to stick to the topic folks! ;)

can't seem to find any others, but google is your best bet to find deals. Theres also http://www.youngmarmalade.co.uk/scheme.php which seems to combine the cost of your car & insurance, thereby offering cheap insurance or free insurance. I've never used them myself, but there seem to be planty of positive reviews online. You might wanna try just popping down to your local dealers, and see what offers/promotions they have on? Not all offers are nationwide. I know my local Ford dealership was giving away free tomtoms with all new cars this weekend, but it was never advertised on the website. Happy hunting :)

Remember the old saying, " you don't get owt for nowt ".;)

The price of the so called " free insurance " will be factored in to the retail price.

i do realise that the accidents need to be taken into consideration, and they have been, well one has, the attempted theft.

but in the accident, as i was the only party involved, and there was no damage to anything except my car which hit a kerb at a bad angle, if i dont want to tell my insurers i dont have to, there is no record of it happening anywhere except in my memories (and on here now lol) it caused no harm to anyone as only me in the vehicle, and no damage to even the kerb, just a nice scrape mark where my alloys took a hammering, it wrecked the axel, which was old anyway, and it was probably better for me to get rid of the car (which was still driveable, although obviously not safe)

so there is only a record of the theft, the police have a record of it and my insurance company have a record too, but as it was only attempted and failed, they didnt do anything, and i just got rid of the damaged car. so they do have a record of it, but no claim was made, so no write off.

and being in the insurance industry i also understand that having Protected no claims bonus is a must, which i have.

:cool:Theres "written off" and "Written off"

I always said that if someone nicked my last car they could have it and I wouldn't go through the insurance - me personally writing the car off rather than going through the insurance company to make the car a recorded WRITE OFF if you see what I mean.....

thats what i meant, i decided to not get it fixed, didnt make any claims through the insurance, and got it taken away to a salvage yard myself, both times, but the one that involved the police i did inform my insurance company of what i was doing and they said it was the most sensible move, rather than me paying excess that was probably worth more than the car (it was a 17 year old car).

so i did inform the insurance company that my car had an attempted theft, the fact that the police could do nothing didnt help me, and the fact that the car wasnt worth it lead me to the option of getting rid of it, as if i had just sold or sorn'd the car and got a new one on the insurance.

then with the twelve year old car even less people were involved, no one hurt, and i didnt get the reg of the car that caused the accident (as i was steering away from him driving head on at me!!) and because only my car was damaged, again no point in claiming as it would have been me paying excess to get it fixed and it wouldnt have been worth it, was quoted by my mechanic friend £700 to fix it, i bought my car for £350 more than 8 months previous.

i like how everyone seems to know better about the law and insurance when i made sure that i had done nothing wrong throughout the whole two year period. also since i work in the industry i know that what i did was best for my insurance policy and the risk that i pose (everyone is known as a risk, im not a bad driver incase anyone tried that one). there have been no laws broken by me, and i would do it all the same way and i would advise clients to do the same if they were in the same situation!!!
