I just had a guy from Scottish Power at the door stating that they are tonnes cheaper than every other energy provider...

He said no-one can match thier prices , one reason being that each meter in the home are property of Scottish Power and that when people choose an energy provider other than SP , the other provider has to rent the meter from SP hence upping tarriff's for customers.....

Anyway , onto my main point , He asked who I was with , I told him Ebico for both gas an electricity ... he said he hadnt heard of them ??? SP do not know about thier competitors ????

I am paying just under 14 per kw for elecricity with Ebico , he said his prices were only 12 per kw with no standing charge .... he said gas was also cheaper with no standing charge... ( i am using prepayment meter for both gas/electricity)

Ive just checked a few energy compare sites like uswitch ect... and they do have electricty for SP at 12 , but , its over 20 for the first 225 kw .... he went onto say that uswitch and the like are not uptodate ??

I have signed with him ( oh for the love of confidence and will power)

If he was lying to me then what sould I do ? should I call SP to cancel ??

Any advice is MOST welcome.

Many thanks

I am with SP and am very happy,i am using online energy saver 7 or 8.I would not fall for the rubbish that comes out of the doorstep sellers though.Cancel and make your own arrangements.I had one caller from a different energy company saying my local power station was closing down and unless i signed with them i'd be paying a fortune for fuel bills as they we're taking it over.DOH!.3 months later he came back and said the same thing only he forgot he'd already tried it,idiot.

    Dont listen to salesman

Listen to radio yesterday about fuel poverty a expert on energy on there said, even she is confused with tariffs. Also best to not make a decision on the spot but to reflect and compare prices

Use the comparison sites in the resource bar above to find out which supplier/tariff is best for you. I say sites because it's unlikely that if you use two or more sites and get identical results, that they will both be making the same identical errors.

You'll be able to cancel any agreement you signed up to with an uninvited door knocker under the statutory cooling off period, so don't worry about that.

Had one of those guys at the door a few weeks ago. He said they were by far the cheapest.
Didn't have my bills to hand to compare, so told him I wanted a written guarantee from him that it would be cheaper and I'd sign up there and then.

Not surprisingly he didn't, and so neither did I!

And even if they were you're muc better sending the guy at the door away and signing up via a cashback site so YOU get the £60 commission for switching not HIM.....

I'm getting my £100 from npower middle of feb and think SP are next on my list for cashback tarting :)
  • I think SP are part of Southern? If so, they must train all of their door knockers the same. The Souther guy told me they own the gas network serving my house and I was being oeverchaged by BG and EDF!

True that I need to switch but as others have said, I will make up my own mind.

Only trouble that I am having is that because I am using my work PC, our intranet won't let me follow the break-out link from the cashback sites.

    Regards

My advice would be to phone and cancel.

Enter you info on one of the comparison sites above and see who would be cheapest for you.

If SP are the cheapest provider for you then why not sign up via a cashback site and get cashback for it yourself?

Did he provide you with the written quote that door to door salesman are now supposed to do?

    No.

Scottish Power are one of the big six suppliers. Scottish & Southern Energy are another of the big six, a direct competitor to Scottish Power.
