I normally pay BT for landline only around £13 if my memory serves me right for land line and a very small charge for caller ID (view privacy at home) the only where you got to make two calls a month

Last month and previous months I paid by DD 13.74

I made no calls and can not find any calls made with BT online as I use another provider talk talk and 118866 and dont use that number via CPS to use BT at all

I dont have BT for broad band either as I am on LLU so no chargers from that

I checked with BT online as I dont get bills and there is no calls shown or anything for that matter that can shed any light, BT web site tells me nothing of what this cost is, I have paperless billing with no bills at all ever

Could it be 1471? even if thats used which occasionally it is it never a lot, I hardly make any calls even with other providers my bills are monthly £5-£7

BT web site says connection charge is 12.2p. I only have that BT Privacy at home which is free

If there has been any price rises I have never received anything from BT either via snail mail or via email or for that matter on there web site.

You will probably find that they have changed the dates of the rental period to fall in line with the calls charging period. This adds a "one off" charge of part of a months rental to the bill.
eg formerly rental 1st Jan to 31st March but calls 20th Jan to 20th April. - new bill rental 1st Jan to 20th April, calls as before , therefore extra rental charge applied.

Thanks for your help. I dont understand how they can charge me a one off without notification I see no justification for this charge its one reason I stop using BT as I do not trust them whatsoever.

And well you shouldn't....my best advice: save yourself a bunch of hassle and change provider asap.

Indeed I have cancelled privacy at home, so only charge I want is line rental and only reason I have that is in case of any future aggravation if I choose a different CPS carrier

I use my CPS carrier for caller ID for £2.50 a month least I can trust then never messed me around so far in 4 years of billing, BT on other hand have many times that's why I moved in first place they still cant be trusted
  • If you have paperless billing and you're allowing BT to take the money out of your bank account, you need to be checking your online bill.

You shouldn't simply expect it to be a certain amount from month to month - you need to log in and check.

If you've agreed to pay by DD then you have agreed that a) unspecified amounts can be taken on b) unspecified dates with c) no notice period necessary ("up to 10 days" = no minimum notification period required in practice, as long as the bill is available to you to view then the money can be debited immediately - that's not to say it will be, but it can be, and that satisfies the DD guarantee)

If the above doesn't sound like a good idea, then DD is not the payment method for you.

If when you say no bills you mean that you're unable to view the bills online that's a different matter you need to pursue with them to find out why the online billing isn't working.

Yes I have checked I never get any bills have haven't done for a very long time. I get the odd letter from BT to advertising but thats pretty rare

They always just take £13 out of my bank account. If any costs have gone up on DD scsheme they are suppose to notify me. if it was for billing for calls fair enough but its not I would need to ring a number before using BT as I have talk talk under CPS

I have emailed them, I hate ringing them as thats an ordeal in itself

I gave up years ago when they messed up again when I moved house and didnt transport my old number over properly and cut me off so no phone, no broadband for a week depsite they saying you are connected, BT man came and said it needed connected in green box on the street
  • Your online bill is your notification - your emphasis is the wrong way around.

When you agree to online billing and DD, it's not up to them to "tell you" - it's up to you to "go and find out".

The normal checkpoint of getting a bill and paying it (so you see the amount) is removed.

  • I know it won't make a big difference but there was also the V.A.T. change at the beginning of the year.
