Anyone have any recomendations for a newer and ideally more economical car for my OH. Running a 2 litre petrol Laguna at the moment but its time for a change. Needs to be a 4 door as we have 2 kids and he collect them from childcare, he only does 5k a year and we have a People carrier too so its literally for the commute and collecting kids.

How old's the Laguna? Initially I'd suggest a vectra or mondeo - petrol probably, as your mileage does not justify a diesel (although if you saw a nice one in budget...). You can definitely get something nice for £3k though.

She is 8. We have had her 6 years now and TBH cannot fault the reliability but just too big. Fuel costs insurance and tax also a bit higher than we would like.MF aim 10th December 2020 :j:eek:MFW 2012 no86 OP 0/2000

Focus, or even a 03-08 plate shape Fiesta - very roomy nice little family cars. The 1.4 TDCI is a cracking engine. so is the focus 1.8 TDCI.0

You're only doing 5K a year though.
At 33mpg you'd be using 151 gallons, say petrol is £1.10 per litre, that's £5 per gallon, so it's costing around £756 a year (£63 per month).
Say you get a car that manages 45mpg then it drops to £554 per year (£46 per month).Happy chappy0 -

Read a thread recently about how someone loved their Fiesta but wanted to sell it because it was too heavy on fuel (compared to their last car - everything is relative! :rotfl:)
Possibly too small for you but....... their 'previous car' was a Renault Clio. Also have personal knowledge and so far so good; tiny but if you can cope with the size then it's cheap to run, reliable, easy to park, 'turns on a six-pence', half decent sized boot. Wasn't sure about buying it at the time but now glad we did. :jMake the most of everything in life (especially Avon

IMO for £3k you aren't guaranteed to get anything better than your Laguna. You know the Laguna. It is reliable (you say). Fuel consumption is not a big consideration for such low mileage. I would think very hard before getting rid and buying a car that someone else has decided they don't want.0

run the laguna till it dies and keep a hold of the £3k....work permit granted!0

Hey i also need help as i am running Mitsubishi Gallant 2.0 model 1995-6. I want to sell it and want same like gallant but company should be changed because i am fed up with Mitsubishi.0

So you want a big 4 door saloon (or 5 door estate) car with a 2 litre engine. That doesn't really narrow it down very much. What's your budget? any other requirements? prefered age? how many miles do you do.
Without any of this info I'm going to suggest you get a Subaru Legacy
